About the Biomedical Technician Role

Batterjee Medical College, located in Dammam, Eastern, Saudi Arabia, is seeking a skilled Biomedical Technician. This full-time role involves supporting the maintenance and operational readiness of biomedical, laboratory, and simulation equipment across academic and clinical training facilities. The technician ensures all equipment functions safely, accurately, and efficiently to support education, research, and healthcare training activities.

Equipment Maintenance and Technical Support

The Biomedical Technician is responsible for comprehensive equipment management, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnosing faults, and executing repairs on a range of devices such as patient monitoring systems, laboratory and diagnostic equipment, and simulation devices. The role also involves assisting with the installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment, verifying its functionality, calibration, and safety before operational use.

  • Conduct routine inspections and scheduled preventive maintenance activities, following manufacturer guidelines and approved checklists.
  • Perform calibration and functional testing, supporting quality assurance checks and validation processes, and coordinating external calibration services as needed.
  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and user complaints, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues efficiently while providing basic technical guidance.

Asset Management and Compliance

A core aspect of this role is maintaining meticulous records and ensuring adherence to safety and compliance standards. The technician manages equipment inventory, asset tagging, and service history, documenting all maintenance, calibration, and repair activities to ensure records are complete and audit-ready. This also includes managing spare parts and consumables inventory, ensuring the use of manufacturer-approved components.

  • Conduct pre-use safety and functionality checks, ensuring faulty equipment is properly labeled and removed from service.
  • Adhere strictly to biomedical, electrical, and institutional safety procedures, supporting audit requirements and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Report equipment incidents, failures, and recurring technical issues, supporting root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions.

Academic and Operational Coordination

The Biomedical Technician plays a crucial role in supporting academic and operational continuity. This involves coordinating closely with faculty and laboratory staff to ensure equipment readiness for practical sessions, laboratory classes, and examinations. Maintenance activities are scheduled strategically to minimize operational disruptions.

  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized maintenance and repairs, monitoring their activities and verifying service quality.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by assisting in equipment lifecycle evaluation and replacement planning.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Biomedical Technician position should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, medical devices, and laboratory systems.
  • Prior experience in hospitals, medical colleges, or simulation centers is preferred.
