Design Lead (Electrical DC) Solar

About the Role

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Design Lead (Electrical DC) - Solar to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position involves leading engineering activities for Solar PV Power Plants, from pre-bid engineering through commissioning and warranty periods. The role requires coordinating with various departments and external stakeholders, and leading a team of design engineers and draughtspersons to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and execute engineering activities including Generation Estimate, Overall Plant Layout, DC SLD, Solar Module selection, Inverter Sizing, SMB, Earthing Layouts, and Cable Sizing Calculations for Solar PV Power Plants.
• Facilitate modellers in the development of BIM 3D models for PV Solar Power Plants.
• Coordinate with other departments, including Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, and MEP, for inter-departmental checks.
• Provide support for engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, from pre-bid to commissioning and warranty.
• Lead a team of Design Engineers and Draughtspersons, managing engineering activities within budget, on time, and to high quality standards.
• Review documents prepared by the engineering office in India and explain them to local contractors for site execution.
• Coordinate with OEM manufacturer engineers and civil contractors during installation and construction.
• Coordinate with local consultants for design adaptation works.
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering drawings and documents, aligning with the project schedule.
• Review drawings, design, and sizing calculations by the design team, and obtain client approvals.
• Review vendor deliverables pertaining to engineering.
• Estimate and plan man-hour requirements.
• Review Bill of Quantities (BOQ), submit to the contracts team, and provide technical clarifications.
• Provide support and clarifications to the site execution team.
• Check pre-award evaluation of vendors against client technical specifications and forward validation documents to Supply Chain Management.
• Inspect equipment from finalized vendors after submission of validation documents.
• Collect project details (plot details, feeder arrangements) from clients and Project Engineering Managers.
• Coordinate with the Operations team and inform design specifications for approval.
• Collect inputs for project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from vendors.
• Check deliverables such as Cable Routing Layout, Cable Tray Layout, Earthing Layout, and Lightning Protection Layout.
• Provide support to Electrical AC and Civil/Structural teams for reviewing vendor drawings.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Overall knowledge of equipment layouts and necessary calculations.
• Detailed knowledge of Solar PV Power Plants, including Generation Estimate, Overall Plant Layout, DC SLD, Solar Module selection, Inverter Sizing, SMB, Earthing Layouts, and Cable Sizing Calculations.
• Knowledge of National and International Codes and Standards relevant to the field.
• Ability to understand and interpret contractual technical requirements and facilitate project teams as needed.
• Overall understanding of inter-disciplinary design aspects (Civil & Structural, Mechanical, and Instrumentation) related to electrical equipment.
• Capable of multitasking and delivering multiple tasks on time.

Work Environment

This role is based in Riyadh and is a full-time position. The Design Lead will work within a dynamic engineering environment, collaborating with both internal departments and external contractors and consultants.
