About the Role
SNC-Lavalin Fayez Engineering is seeking a Lead Field Engineer - Electrical to manage electrical engineering supervision activities for a major development project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves ensuring electrical systems are installed, tested, commissioned, and handed over in compliance with approved designs, project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and contractual obligations. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for complex electrical systems across large-scale buildings, convention centers, hotels, resorts, and mixed-use developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all electrical site engineering and inspection activities throughout project execution.
- Review and monitor electrical construction works for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and project requirements.
- Coordinate and oversee electrical engineers, inspectors, and specialist consultants.
- Review and recommend approval of electrical shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and technical submissions.
- Monitor the installation of electrical systems including power distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, and ELV systems.
- Ensure electrical works are executed according to approved schedules and project milestones.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with architectural, structural, mechanical, ICT, security, and specialist systems.
- Review Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, and design clarifications related to electrical works.
- Conduct site inspections and quality audits to verify workmanship and compliance with project standards.
- Witness factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and commissioning activities.
- Ensure implementation of Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures for all electrical systems.
- Monitor testing and commissioning of electrical infrastructure and building systems.
- Identify technical risks, construction challenges, and interface issues, recommending corrective actions.
- Support progress measurement, payment certification, and project reporting activities.
- Verify compliance with local authority regulations, utility requirements, and international electrical standards.
- Participate in coordination meetings, design review workshops, and project progress meetings.
- Assist in managing non-conformance reports, corrective actions, and punch list items.
- Oversee snagging, de-snagging, testing, commissioning, operational readiness, and handover activities.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior electrical engineers and inspectors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university. A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Project Management is preferred.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer, PMP, or equivalent certification is desirable.
- Overall Experience: Minimum of 12+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering and construction supervision.
- Lead Role Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in a lead electrical supervision role on major building projects.
- Project Type Experience: Proven experience in large-scale buildings, convention centers, hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, airports, commercial towers, or hospitality projects.
- Industry Experience: Extensive experience within Site Supervision Consultancy, PMC, or Engineering Consultancy environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, substations, generators, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, ELV, and building systems integration.
- Document Review: Experience reviewing electrical design documents, shop drawings, technical submittals, and testing reports.
- Standards: Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, NFPA, IEEE, BS, and relevant Saudi regulations.
- Commissioning: Experience with testing, commissioning, and handover of complex building electrical systems.
- Quality & Safety: Strong understanding of QA/QC requirements, inspection processes, and safety standards.
- Coordination: Experience coordinating with utility providers and local authorities.
- Regional Experience: Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC projects is highly preferred.
Required Skills
- Excellent leadership, communication, technical reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering management software.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, involving close collaboration with the Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, MEP teams, contractors, and other stakeholders on a major development project.
