About Bupa Arabia and the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a Manager Data Engineering to join our team in Jeddah or Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves designing and implementing robust data ingestion pipelines, enabling SAS Viya Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) data models, and optimizing large-scale data workloads in Google BigQuery. The position requires 5-10 years of experience in data engineering.

Data Engineering and Pipeline Development

The Manager Data Engineering will be responsible for developing and maintaining enterprise data solutions. Key tasks include:

• Building reusable and parameterized mappings/taskflows for data ingestion.
• Implementing Change Data Capture (CDC), idempotent loads, schema evolution, and data quality gates.
• Optimizing Google BigQuery loads through partitioning, clustering, and appropriate load strategies.
• Setting up version control and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Profiling data sources and defining field-level mappings and transformation rules.
• Specifying business logic, joins, lookups, and derivations for data transformations.

Data Governance and Security

This role includes ensuring data integrity, privacy, and security across all data assets:

• Defining data quality rules, managing exceptions, and handling rejected data.
• Defining least-privilege IAM roles and service accounts.
• Applying dataset, table, row, and column-level security and data masking techniques.
• Enabling audit logs and data retention policies, including classifying Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Orchestration and Performance Optimization

The Manager Data Engineering will manage the operational aspects and performance of data systems:

• Parameterizing taskflows and setting schedules and dependencies for automated processes.
• Implementing retry mechanisms, backoff strategies, and checkpointing for reliability.
• Integrating monitoring and alerting systems using Ops console and ChatOps.
• Tracking data freshness, job health, data volumes, and anomalies.
• Monitoring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for duration, errors, cost per TB, and slot utilization.
• Tuning BigQuery performance and optimizing costs through storage lifecycle management, query tuning, and caching strategies.

SAS Viya FWA Model Support

A key aspect of the role involves supporting the SAS Viya FWA data models:

• Gathering model inputs, defining features, windows, and granularity requirements.
• Aligning scoring logic and feature engineering steps with model specifications.
• Designing curated FWA datasets, including claims, eligibility, providers, members, and pre-authorizations.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in ETL/ELT development using Informatica IDMC, along with proficiency in cloud data platforms. Experience with healthcare data models is essential for this role. A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience is required.
