Lead Driller

About the Role

Virtucruit is collaborating with a prominent mining company in Saudi Arabia to recruit a Lead Driller for its Drilling Department. This full-time position is based in the Al Joshwan mountain range, situated at 1,750m above sea level in Najran. The role is suitable for individuals with 5-10 years of experience who are prepared for a challenging environment and focused on achieving high performance and delivering quality test results.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all drilling activities, including mixing drilling fluids, assembling tools, connecting drill pipe sections, and operating machinery.
• Operate machinery to manage the drill string and bit, maintaining rotation speed, weight on bit, and mud circulation.
• Ensure accurate labeling, legibility, numeric order, and secure closure of bags/cores according to designated footages.
• Maintain the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental work.
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
• Perform inspections and basic maintenance/repairs on Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs (Boyles and Diamec).
• Coordinate complex repairs with the Supervisor and the Maintenance & Repair team.
• Record and report equipment hours and performance data daily.
• Support logistics and maintenance activities.
• Manage the rigging up/down process and relocation to new drill sites.
• Fuel site equipment and assist with preventative maintenance, including oil changes, greasing, and fueling.
• Complete daily site, mast, and pre-shift inspections on all equipment.
• Maximize core recovery and monitor hole direction targets.
• Troubleshoot complex downhole problems and identify basic mechanical issues on the drill rig.
• Maintain a safe worksite and equipment.
• Comply with Health & Safety requirements and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Drilling Supervisor.
• Support the development and training of local nationals through mentorship, guidance, and coaching.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in drilling operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead drilling activities and manage equipment.
• Proficiency in operating various drilling machinery.
• Strong understanding of safety, health, and environmental standards in a mining context.
• Experience with Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs (Boyles and Diamec) is required.

Work Environment

The role requires a willingness to travel as needed and work in various conditions, including outdoor and/or shop environments. Candidates must be prepared for shift work or flexible time schedules and comfortable working in remote locations and diverse weather elements.
