The Role of Senior Electrical Engineer

As a Senior Electrical Engineer focusing on Transmission & Distribution, you will be responsible for project implementation and execution. This full-time role, based in Dammam, Eastern, Saudi Arabia, involves working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver projects. Key responsibilities include conducting technical assessments, preparing reports, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring project milestones are met. The position offers exposure to various aspects of the electrical engineering and construction sector, with support for developing knowledge towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the electrical engineering scope, reviewing IFC MEP design packages to understand project requirements, design intent, specifications, and scope of work.
• Lead detailed technical reviews of electrical designs to ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements, local authority regulations (SEC, DEWA, ADDC, ADMCC), and international standards (BS, IEC, NFPA).
• Identify design gaps, discrepancies, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities, proposing practical solutions.
• Coordinate electrical engineering with the BIM team and other disciplines to develop and issue coordinated shop drawings, single-line diagrams, and electrical layouts.
• Review and approve electrical shop drawings, schematics, calculations, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance before submission.
• Verify electrical load schedules, cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit calculations, and protection coordination studies.
• Lead the preparation, submission, and follow-up of RFIs, technical queries, and design clarifications.
• Liaise with the MEP Manager, consultant, client, and other stakeholders to resolve complex technical matters and agree on design changes.
• Review electrical interfaces with Mechanical, CSA, Fire Protection, and BMS to ensure system coordination and constructibility.
• Identify and communicate potential technical, design, and program risks related to the electrical engineering scope.
• Ensure electrical design provisions adequately address critical infrastructure requirements.
• Provide engineering leadership and technical oversight for electrical installation activities, ensuring execution according to approved documentation.
• Offer technical direction and guidance to Construction Managers, Superintendents, supervisors, and subcontractors.
• Conduct regular site inspections and engineering reviews to identify installation discrepancies, quality concerns, and clashes.
• Ensure site teams receive the latest approved technical information and instructions, and that superseded documentation is withdrawn.
• Lead the resolution of site technical queries, identifying root causes and coordinating corrective actions.
• Review and coordinate builders' work requirements with BIM, CSA, and Construction teams.
• Monitor electrical installation progress against engineering deliverables and the overall construction program.
• Provide technical guidance on proposed design changes, equipment substitutions, and alternative installation methodologies.
• Identify opportunities to improve installation efficiency, constructability, system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on Transmission & Distribution. A strong understanding of project implementation and execution within the engineering and construction sector is essential.
