Senior Principal Data Engineering

About the Role

Elm Company is seeking a Senior Principal to provide specialized expertise in the architecture, engineering, and technical implementation of enterprise-scale Data Lakehouse capabilities. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and requires over 10 years of experience. The role focuses on designing scalable data platforms, modern big data architectures, and high-performance data processing frameworks.

Role Purpose and Impact

This role is central to the strategic Data Lakehouse initiative, ensuring technical excellence, reducing delivery risks, accelerating platform adoption, and strengthening internal capabilities in modern data engineering and big data technologies. The objective is to support analytics, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and lead the Data Lakehouse architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with business, analytics, and technology objectives.
• Establish architectural standards, engineering principles, and technical roadmaps for enterprise data platforms.
• Evaluate emerging big data technologies and recommend suitable solutions that support strategic objectives.
• Maintain and enrich enterprise data catalog information to improve data discoverability, ensuring business and technical metadata are accurately documented.
• Lead the development of scalable data pipelines, establishing standards for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and integration processes.
• Define performance optimization strategies for large-scale data processing workloads and drive capacity planning activities.
• Define engineering standards, frameworks, and best practices for data platform development, ensuring alignment with architecture, governance, security, and compliance.
• Enable data platforms that support business intelligence, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning initiatives.
• Act as the organizational subject matter expert for Data Lakehouse architecture, big data technologies, and modern data engineering practices.
• Lead technical aspects of the Data Lakehouse program, identify delivery risks, and develop mitigation plans.

Compliance and Standards

• Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions.
• Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls.
• Adhere to all relevant information security practices and standards to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in data architecture, engineering, or related fields.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing enterprise-scale Data Lakehouse capabilities.
• Strong background in modern big data architectures and high-performance data processing frameworks.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership across enterprise data initiatives.
