About the Role

Sheraton is seeking a Dir-Finance-B to function as the property’s strategic financial business leader. This full-time role involves championing, developing, and implementing property-wide strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed the needs of the brand’s target customer and property employees. The position requires 2-5 years of experience and provides financial expertise to ensure the successful implementation of brand service strategies and initiatives, while maximizing return on investment.

Strategic Planning and Decision Making

The Dir-Finance-B will create and execute a business plan aligned with the property and brand’s business strategy, focusing on financial activities and delivering desirable financial results. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing methods to improve profit, including cost/benefit estimation and exploring new business opportunities.
  • Analyzing information, forecasting sales against expenses, and creating annual budget plans.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and monitoring actual sales against projected sales.
  • Analyzing differences between actual and forecasted budget wages for efficient planning.
  • Identifying underlying principles and facts by breaking down information or data.
  • Developing, executing, and implementing new business plans.
  • Creating the annual operating budget for the property.
  • Providing analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
  • Implementing appropriate controls to manage business risks and safeguarding assets.
  • Analyzing financial data and market trends.
  • Leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan.
  • Monitoring operating department’s actual and projected sales and producing accurate forecasts.

Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

This role involves leading finance teams and engaging with key stakeholders. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading, influencing, and encouraging others through strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Communicating strategic goals, focus, and owner priorities clearly.
  • Influencing the executive team and property strategies through functional leadership.
  • Overseeing internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
  • Assigning clear accountability to team members and other department managers.
  • Conducting annual performance appraisals with direct reports.
  • Attending meetings and communicating with owners to understand priorities.
  • Advising the General Manager and executive committee on operating/financial issues.
  • Communicating financial concepts clearly to drive desired behaviors.
  • Managing communication with owners and property working capital/cash flow.

Financial Management and Compliance

The Dir-Finance-B is responsible for developing and maintaining financial goals, managing projects, and ensuring policy compliance. This includes:

  • Ensuring accurate documentation of Profits and Losses.
  • Monitoring all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, or accrued.
  • Submitting reports in a timely manner.
  • Developing and supporting the achievement of performance, budget, and team goals.
  • Improving profit growth in operating departments.
  • Reviewing audit issues for accuracy and monitoring the purchasing process.
  • Generating accurate and timely reports and presentations.
  • Reconciling balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by documentation.
  • Ensuring the P&L is accurate and costs are properly matched to revenue.
  • Ensuring compliance with management contracts, reporting requirements, and operating procedures.

Human Resources Activities

The role also involves managing and conducting human resource activities within the finance department, such as:

  • Ensuring team members are cross-trained for successful daily operations.
  • Administering property policies fairly and consistently.
  • Ensuring new hires participate in the department’s orientation and receive appropriate training.
  • Creating development plans based on individual strengths, needs, and career aspirations.
  • Conducting performance reviews for employees.
  • Participating in hiring activities as appropriate.
