Senior Cytotechnologist

About the Role

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is seeking a Senior Cytotechnologist. This full-time position involves performing and evaluating a variety of cytochemical, microscopic, and immunological procedures and testing within the Anatomic Pathology section. The primary goal is to obtain accurate data essential for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare microscopic slides from various specimens, including scrapings and exudates, ensuring proper fixation, staining, and mounting to preserve specimens and enhance cell visibility.
• Examine human body cells under a microscope to detect cellular abnormalities, hormonal irregularities, and other pathological conditions, reporting findings to the pathologist.
• Assist in Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures by evaluating the cellular adequacy of specimens, including those obtained during endoscopy or under radiological guidance (ultrasound and CT).
• Adhere to College of American Pathologists (CAP) standard ****** to meet CLIA requirements for the total number of slides examined or reviewed within a twenty-four (24) hour period.
• Manage supply levels to ensure uninterrupted services, maintaining an efficient ordering and inventory system.
• Contribute to the development of new methodologies and the evaluation of new equipment, updating policy and procedure manuals as per guidelines.
• Maintain quality control within the subsection and participate in the section's Quality Assurance programs, investigating incident reports and implementing corrective actions.
• Assist the section supervisor with employee performance appraisals, provide counseling for performance improvement, and offer orientation, training, and continuing education to junior staff, other laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
• Implement and maintain appropriate laboratory safety procedures and practices.
• Prepare required reports and statistical data, maintaining equipment repair logs and records of operation, maintenance, and repair for the subsection.
• Comply with section policies, procedures, and protocols, and follow the section's quality improvement program in accordance with CBAHI, JCI, CAP, SFDA, and other international accreditation standards.
• Participate in personal and peer education, training, and development.
• Adhere to all Hospital-related policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience. Specific requirements vary by grade level:

• Grade 09: A Master's Degree with two (2) years of related experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with four (4) years of related experience.
• Grade 10: Four (4) years of experience as a Senior Medical Technologist at KFSH&RC or equivalent (Grade 09) related experience. Additionally, an average annual performance appraisal of at least for the last four (4) years and one hundred (100) hours of cumulative continued medical education (CME) are required.

Work Environment

This position is based in Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and operates on a full-time basis within the Anatomic Pathology section of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center.
