About the Role

Aljomaih Energy & Water is seeking an experienced Chemist to join its team in Ash Shimasiyah, Al Qassim Province. This full-time position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and is central to managing water quality, conducting chemical analysis, overseeing chemical inventory, and ensuring strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures. The role involves close collaboration with operational and maintenance teams, promoting safety, and contributing to research and development initiatives, particularly during the critical pre-PCOD phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee water treatment programs for cooling water, boiler feed water, and wastewater, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular water quality tests and analyses, including pH, conductivity, and alkalinity, adjusting treatment processes as necessary.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses on various samples such as fuels, lubricants, and process fluids to maintain optimal operating conditions.
  • Develop and validate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory analyses and chemical testing.
  • Manage the procurement, storage, and handling of all plant chemicals, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Maintain adequate stock of chemical consumables and equipment to ensure timely availability and uninterrupted laboratory services.
  • Track and document chemical usage, maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Adhere to all relevant HSE procedures and ensure chemical processes and waste management comply with environmental regulations.
  • Prepare required reports and documentation for environmental audits and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to provide chemical insights and recommendations for optimizing plant performance.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) related to chemistry issues impacting plant operations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and provide training to plant personnel on chemical safety and handling procedures.
  • Stay updated on advancements in chemical processes and technologies, conducting research to develop improved treatment methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory analyses, chemical usage, and compliance checks, preparing periodic performance reports.

Pre-PCOD Phase Engagement

A significant aspect of this role involves responsibilities during the pre-PCOD (Pre-Commercial Operation Date) phase, including:

  • Supporting the Owner during the design review, installation, commissioning, testing, and trial operation periods.
  • Reviewing and finalizing Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
  • Preparing site-specific procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Ensuring Maintenance team authorization as Permit Receivers.
  • Facilitating the timely placement of subcontracts.
  • Ensuring laboratory and chemistry management readiness for the operational period, including staff training and system/process implementation.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background combined with extensive practical experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in chemical analysis and laboratory operations, preferably within a power generation or industrial chemical setting.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of chemical properties, water treatment processes, and environmental regulations relevant to power plants.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation for chemical analyses, including titrations, spectroscopy, and chromatography.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental regulations pertaining to water quality and chemical management, alongside industry best practices.
