Senior QA Engineer

About Salla and the Role

Salla is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to oversee product quality across its platform. This full-time position is based in Makkah, Makkah Province, and requires 5-10 years of experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all releases meet established quality standards and for making informed go/no-go release decisions based on risk assessments and test results.

Role Purpose and Approach

The Senior QA Engineer will define and refine the most suitable QA approach for Salla's products and teams. This includes establishing testing strategies, selecting tools, setting standards, and optimizing workflows. The approach should be adaptable, allowing for adjustments in testing depth, type, and process to suit various situations, from urgent hotfixes to major feature launches or high-risk changes. This is a hands-on role encompassing both manual and automated testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end quality, integrating it from requirement reviews and design discussions through to the final release decision.
• Define and continuously refine the QA approach, including testing standards, workflows, tools, and quality metrics, adapting processes to risk and context.
• Determine testing scope, depth, and methodology (functional, regression, API, UI, performance, security, usability), balancing manual and automated efforts.
• Perform thorough manual and exploratory testing on new features to identify edge cases, unexpected user behavior, and UI/UX issues.
• Build and maintain Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript) automation for CI, ensuring reliable and fast feedback.
• Review code and pull requests critically, providing constructive feedback.
• Triage and investigate defects using browser DevTools to identify root causes and assist in prioritization.
• Prevent recurring issues by analyzing defect trends and implementing safeguards such as tests, checks, and process changes.
• Utilize AI tools to enhance test creation, analysis, and debugging, while validating outputs.
• Communicate risks clearly to stakeholders with actionable recommendations.
• Identify and drive improvements in processes, tools, or products, and mentor other QA engineers.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 5+ years of QA experience with direct ownership of releases and quality decisions.
• Strong experience in both manual and automated testing, with the ability to balance both effectively.
• Solid JavaScript and TypeScript skills for writing maintainable Playwright automation and understanding application code.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright or a similar framework, with a willingness to specialize in Playwright.
• Strong command of Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and CI pipelines.
• Deep understanding of testing types, techniques, and test design, with sound judgment in their application.
• Flexibility to adjust testing approaches to different situations while maintaining high quality standards.
• Experience testing web, mobile, and APIs.
• Proficiency with browser DevTools for debugging and investigation.
• Practical experience using AI in work, combined with critical thinking to assess its reliability.
• A preventive mindset, demonstrated by examples of resolving root causes rather than just symptoms.
