About the Role: Pharmacist
National Medical Care is seeking a Pharmacist to join our dedicated team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is integral to ensuring the provision of superior quality medical treatment and comprehensive pharmaceutical care across NMC Hospitals and Clinics. The role requires a professional with 2-5 years of experience in pharmacy operations.
Role Purpose and Patient Care
The Pharmacist is responsible for delivering accurate and prompt medication to patients, upholding the highest standards of compassion and understanding. This position focuses on reviewing and processing physician orders, providing essential drug information, and ensuring rational drug therapy to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure prompt and accurate delivery of medications to patients.
- Review, process, and check Physician’s Orders and patient medication profiles thoroughly.
- Provide current and accurate drug information to healthcare professionals and patients to support rational drug therapy.
- Interpret prescriptions to ensure appropriateness, accurate filling, and detailed instructions, verifying strength and dosage are within patient tolerance.
- Review patient profiles to check for drug-drug interactions, drug-patient allergies, diet restrictions, and suitable dosages.
- Prepare daily medicines for inpatients based on the unit dose system.
- Calculate doses for * Admixtures, TPN, and Compounding Cytotoxic drugs according to written policies and procedures.
- Manage computerized charging, verification, and modification of inpatient medication for specific patients.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information as per hospital policy and professional pharmacy standards.
- Estimate monthly controlled drug requirements and stock levels, control inventory, and initiate storehouse orders for appropriate areas.
- Participate in inpatient counseling and the training of Pharmacy Students.
- Assist in updating the Hospital Formulary and ensure accurate and proper storage of all newly delivered medicines.
- Observe the process of computerization, including drug dispensing, inventory management, drug interaction checks, allergy alerts, refills, and prescription validity.
- Perform periodic spot-checks for all controlled and narcotic drugs according to Ministry of Health (MOH) regulations to guarantee inventory correctness.
- Review the operating manuals for the Pharmacy unit every two years.
- Participate in continuing education to stay abreast of new pharmaceuticals, equipment techniques, and antidote information.
- Maintain and file current listings of physicians' and dentists’ signature specimens (badge number), abbreviations, and clerical symbols, recommending and implementing approved changes.
- Implement and maintain infection control procedures.
- Comply with the hospital dress code.
- Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Patient and Family Education
- Educate patients and families as per their needs, fulfilling the role regarding the patient and family education process as outlined in policy (NSP-GEN-014), including documentation in the patient medical record.
- Involve patients and families in the plan of care and respect their goals and choices regarding patient care.
- Provide health promotion and health teaching through methods appropriate to a patient’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situation.
- Allot necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients and families, ensuring appropriate documentation.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (** in Pharmacy.
- Licensed Pharmacist, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting.
Work Environment
This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, within the professional and patient-focused environment of National Medical Care facilities. The role demands adherence to hospital policies and a commitment to continuous professional development.
