Senior Electrical Engineer Transportation

About the Role

WSP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer-Transportation to join the Construction Supervision team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves overseeing the delivery of electrical systems for a major roads and highways infrastructure project, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and client expectations.

Role Context and Scope

The successful candidate will play a key role in site supervision, working closely with contractors, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the construction phase. The position requires extensive experience in large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects, focusing on electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor all electrical construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable standards.
• Inspect and oversee installation works related to highway electrical systems, including street lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal infrastructure, power distribution, electrical substations, communication networks, and tunnel/roadway electrical systems.
• Review contractor shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and work procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits to ensure works are delivered in accordance with project requirements.
• Monitor contractor performance and progress against approved construction schedules.
• Provide technical guidance and support to site teams, clients, and contractors on electrical engineering matters.
• Review and resolve technical queries, RFIs, non-conformance reports, and design-related issues.
• Coordinate with design teams to address construction challenges and ensure effective implementation of approved solutions.
• Participate in value engineering and constructability reviews where required.
• Ensure all electrical works comply with project specifications, local regulations, Saudi standards, and international engineering best practices.
• Verify testing and commissioning activities and witness factory acceptance tests (FATs) and site acceptance tests (SATs) as required.
• Prepare and review inspection reports, test reports, snagging lists, and commissioning documentation.
• Support project closeout activities and final handover documentation.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, utility authorities, and relevant government agencies.
• Attend progress meetings, technical workshops, and coordination meetings with project stakeholders.
• Support interface management for utility diversions and integration with other infrastructure systems.
• Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance on site.
• Ensure all electrical installations are executed in accordance with approved HSE procedures and project safety requirements.
• Participate in safety inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in electrical engineering.
• Proven experience working with leading international engineering consultancy firms.
• Significant experience in construction supervision and site-based roles.
• Demonstrated experience on major roads, highways, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
• Previous experience working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is essential.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems associated with transport and infrastructure projects.
• Experience coordinating with contractors, utility authorities, and government stakeholders.
• Proven track record of delivering projects within quality, safety, and schedule requirements.
