About the Controller Role

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, *** is seeking a Controller to serve as the strategic financial business leader for its property in Makkah, with operations also extending to Jeddah. This full-time role is central to developing and implementing property-wide financial strategies that align with brand expectations and maximize return on investment. The Controller provides essential financial expertise to support the brand service strategy and initiatives, ensuring the successful execution of financial and accounting activities to achieve desirable financial results.

Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis

The Controller is responsible for driving strategic financial planning and decision-making through comprehensive analysis and proactive initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

• Analyzing financial data and market trends to inform business strategies.
• Forecasting sales against expenses and developing annual budget plans.
• Monitoring actual sales against projections and identifying variances.
• Developing strategies to enhance profitability, including cost/benefit analysis and exploring new business opportunities.
• Ensuring a robust accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets and improve profitability.
• Implementing appropriate controls to manage business risks effectively.

Financial Operations and Compliance

This role oversees critical financial operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established standards and regulations. Core duties involve:

• Submitting financial reports accurately and within specified deadlines.
• Ensuring precise documentation of Profits and Losses (P&L) and proper matching of costs to revenue.
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with all applicable taxes, including collection and accrual.
• Generating accurate and timely financial results in various report and presentation formats.
• Overseeing internal, external, and regulatory audit processes and ensuring necessary corrections are made.
• Ensuring strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and local operating procedures (LSOPs).

Leadership and Stakeholder Management

The Controller leads the accounting team and acts as a key liaison for various stakeholders, ensuring financial objectives are communicated and met. Responsibilities include:

• Leading and influencing teams through strong interpersonal and communication skills, advocating for sound financial decision-making.
• Communicating strategic goals and owner priorities clearly to subordinates.
• Holding staff accountable for performance and fostering team development through appropriate training and development plans.
• Understanding and addressing the needs and ROI expectations of key stakeholders, including owners, corporate, and guests.
• Advising the General Manager and executive committee on operating and financial issues.
• Attending owner meetings to provide context and explanation for financial results and understanding their strategic focus.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Controller position should meet the following requirements:

• A 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major, combined with 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related professional area.
• Alternatively, a Master's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major, with no specific work experience required.
• A minimum of 5 to 10 years of overall professional experience in a relevant financial leadership role is expected.
