Linux & Backup Administrator

About the Role

Astek is seeking an experienced Linux & Backup Administrator to join an Infrastructure Operations team for one of our clients. This full-time role is based in Makkah or Jeddah and requires 2-5 years of relevant experience. The position focuses on managing Linux environments and enterprise backup solutions to ensure system availability, data protection, and disaster recovery readiness.

Role Purpose

The Linux & Backup Administrator is responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This involves proactive management of Linux servers and robust backup systems to support continuous operations and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers, including RHEL, Rocky Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, and SUSE.
• Perform server provisioning, patching, upgrades, hardening, and lifecycle management.
• Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and overall infrastructure health.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, groups, and authentication services.
• Configure and support services such as Apache, Nginx, SSH, DNS, NTP, and FTP.
• Troubleshoot operating system, network, storage, and application-related issues.
• Administer enterprise backup solutions such as Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, Rubrik, or Dell Networker.
• Configure backup policies, schedules, retention periods, encryption, and storage targets.
• Monitor backup jobs, investigate failures, and perform file, database, virtual machine, and application restores.
• Conduct backup validation and disaster recovery testing.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
• Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
• Monitor infrastructure using tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, or SolarWinds.
• Support virtualization and cloud-hosted Linux workloads across VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, recovery plans, and capacity reports.
• Support security audits, vulnerability remediation, compliance initiatives, and data protection requirements.

Required Experience

• 2-5 years of experience in Linux administration and enterprise backup solutions.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position located in Makkah or Jeddah, supporting the infrastructure operations of our client.
