Staff Nurse PICU

About the Role

Dallah Healthcare is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This full-time role involves delivering high-quality patient care at Dallah Hospital, ensuring adherence to clinical standards and supporting professional development. The Staff Nurse assesses patient needs, assists in preparation, and implements nursing care processes to optimize patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Admitting, discharging, and documenting patient data accurately and promptly.
• Providing essential patient care, including bed baths and pressure ulcer prevention.
• Monitoring vital signs, ECG tracings, CVP arterial line waveforms, and initiating corrective actions for adverse symptoms.
• Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment such as ventilators.
• Preparing equipment and assisting physicians during examinations, treatments, procedures, and life-saving situations.
• Consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Assisting with the insertion or discontinuation of CV catheters, arterial lines, external ventricular drains, and endotracheal tubes.
• Participating in patient and family education programs regarding post-discharge care.
• Maintaining continuity of care through clear and accurate handover reports.
• Ensuring doctors' orders and patient management plans are followed, reporting any deterioration immediately.
• Maintaining current knowledge of medications, their administration, and reporting adverse reactions.
• Calculating, preparing, monitoring, and discontinuing fluids and medication drips.
• Taking an active role in infection prevention and control.
• Contributing to the induction of new staff and acting as a mentor when appropriate.
• Participating in Quality Improvement Programs.
• Ensuring strict observance of rules and regulations governing the storage and custody of scheduled drugs and narcotics.

Required Competencies

• Thorough and accurate assessment of the physiological status of critically ill children.
• Professional judgment and appropriate care during exchange transfusions.
• Ability to calculate dosages and administer medications (inotropes, vasodilators, sedation, paralyzing agents) in PICU.
• Correct monitoring of patients on arterial lines and with central venous catheters.
• Interpretation of rhythms during cardiac monitoring.
• Administration of sedatives, monitoring patient response, and providing physiologic support during procedures.
• Care for pediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation, defibrillation/cardioversion, and chest drains.
• Assessment and care for the development and existing pressure ulcers.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) / Registered Nurse (RN).
• Post-basic course qualification in the specialty.
• Two years of post-basic experience, with at least six months in the specialty.
• Previous experience in Middle Eastern healthcare is preferred.
• Valid BLS and PALS certificates.
• Good command of the English Language.
• Appropriate qualification and statutory nursing registration in the country of recruitment.
