Director of Engineering

About the Role

InterContinental Hotels Group is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and manage the Engineering Department. This full-time role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of all hotel facilities, equipment, systems, and infrastructure. The Director will ensure compliance with hotel standards, brand requirements, and applicable local regulations, contributing to the overall operational excellence of the hotel.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the Engineering Department.
• Ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of all hotel facilities, equipment, and engineering systems.
• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure operational efficiency and minimize equipment downtime.
• Oversee all MEP systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, environmental, and statutory requirements.
• Monitor and control energy, water, and utility consumption, implementing initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Prepare and manage the Engineering Department’s annual budget, operating expenses, and capital expenditure requirements.
• Plan and oversee engineering projects, renovations, refurbishment, and major repairs.
• Coordinate closely with all hotel departments to address maintenance requirements and ensure minimal disruption to operations and guests.
• Lead, supervise, train, and develop Engineering team members to ensure high technical and operational standards.
• Manage contractors, consultants, and external service providers, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to agreed standards.
• Ensure prompt response to engineering emergencies, equipment breakdowns, and guest-related maintenance issues.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, equipment performance, and engineering projects.
• Conduct regular inspections of hotel facilities and identify potential risks, defects, and maintenance requirements.
• Ensure all engineering works are carried out in accordance with company policies, brand standards, and Saudi Arabian regulations.
• Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the Engineering Department.
• Provide regular reports to the General Manager on engineering operations, projects, maintenance activities, energy consumption, and departmental performance.
• Support the hotel’s sustainability and environmental initiatives and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates for this role should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience in engineering leadership and management, preferably within the hospitality sector. A strong understanding of hotel facilities, equipment, and engineering systems is required.
