Project Engineering Manager

About the Role

Wood is seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to lead and coordinate small to mid-range projects within the fertilizers (phosphate, ammonia, urea) and mining & metals sectors (aluminum, gold, copper) in Saudi Arabia. This full-time, office-based position focuses on engineering oversight, project planning, technical coordination, cost and schedule control, procurement support, and stakeholder alignment. The role manages projects through concept development, feasibility assessment, basic engineering, detailed design oversight, procurement follow-up, and preparation for execution, ensuring all engineering deliverables meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives. This position emphasizes office-driven project leadership with strong coordination between engineering teams, internal departments, and site representatives, and does not involve direct construction management. Occasional short visits may be required for specific technical reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage P&L with associated commercial and financial accountability, including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budget and forecast determination, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls, accounts payable/billing, and cash collection.
• Contribute to and review project proposals and plans to determine timeframe, procedures, staffing requirements, and resource allocation.
• Negotiate changes to project scope or specifications with customers and follow the Change Management process for modifications to scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
• Pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalization, technology use, work share, and high-value engineering centers.
• Establish project procedures and lead the production of project execution plans, including scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, organizational charts, and risk register.
• Report project progress regularly to senior management and/or customers.
• Ensure delivery of agreed schedule and financial performance, proactively intervening to prevent slippage.
• Ensure the competence of project team members to carry out assigned work.
• Lead ongoing focus on risk identification and mitigation during project execution.
• Be responsible for project HSSE leadership, ensuring a program of initiatives and auditing schedule are established and that HSSE and quality management issues are proactively addressed.
• Guide and direct a multidiscipline project team, which may include external specialists and staff from multiple offices and sites.
• Promote and establish a performance improvement culture and actions on complex projects and within their supply chains.
• Facilitate the setup of information management systems/applications as applicable to suit various life phases of projects and manage the information management project team.
• Participate in assurance activities and peer reviews.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Champion and role model ethical behavior and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
• Oversee proposals and call-offs (which may be individual projects) within the delegation of authority, ensuring compliance with contracting policy and standards of ethical conduct.
• Coach, mentor, and empower others to make decisions within established parameters.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 20 years of experience in project management or project engineering roles.
• Demonstrated experience in the fertilizers (phosphate, ammonia, urea) and/or mining & metals (aluminum, gold, copper) sectors.
• Proven ability to manage projects through concept development, feasibility assessment, basic engineering, detailed design oversight, and procurement follow-up.
• Strong understanding of project planning, technical coordination, cost and schedule control, and stakeholder alignment.
