The Role of Venture Capital Associate

As a Venture Capital Associate, you will be responsible for expanding Pairs' network of investors who directly invest in private companies and managing these relationships. This role focuses on the investor side, requiring you to identify and onboard new investors, understand their investment criteria, and match them with suitable opportunities. The platform handles pipeline management, research, and follow-up, allowing you to focus on investor engagement and assessing capital commitment readiness. Pairs is not raising a fund; investors directly back companies, so a network primarily composed of fund LPs or institutional mandates is not suitable for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Cultivating and maintaining investor relationships, ensuring they remain current and qualified.
• Driving network growth by establishing new relationships monthly with family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and angel investors new to Pairs.
• Developing a clear understanding of each investor's preferences to ensure relevant opportunity sharing.
• Engaging with investors between opportunities to maintain utility and foster continued collaboration.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a professional who has personally built and can articulate the development of their investor relationships, whether through direct outreach, cultivated referrals, or deliberate engagement with events and networks. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of guiding at least one investor from initial conversation to a direct investment in a private round, with the ability to detail this process. Discretion is paramount in this role.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated ability to build investor relationships personally and explain their origin.
• Experience in facilitating at least one direct investment in a private round from an investor.
• Comprehensive understanding of investor preferences, including investment stage, check size, sector, and reasons for declining opportunities.
• A high degree of discretion in handling sensitive information.
• Proficiency in using AI tools daily, with sound judgment regarding their application to enhance work quality.

Compensation and Work Environment

This is a fully remote, asynchronous role offering a base salary plus commission. You will work directly with the two co-founders and the investor team within a flat organizational structure, providing direct insight into deal screening processes and decision-making. You will have access to live mandates from your first week and opportunities that clear internal diligence.
