UNICEF was founded over eighty years ago to address the critical needs of children affected by World War II. Its first supply shipment in August 1947 was for children in what is now North Macedonia, then part of Yugoslavia. In 1993, UNICEF was among the first UN agencies to establish an office in the newly independent state. Initially, it provided emergency assistance to refugee children from the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over the decades, UNICEF's partnership with North Macedonia has brought positive change to generations of children through both development and crisis response. Today, UNICEF, alongside its partners, continues to work towards ensuring every child has a childhood, a future, and a fair chance, while remaining prepared to protect children during emergencies.
