Role Summary: Superintendent, EHS

Nama Chemicals Co. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent, EHS to lead the establishment and maintenance of a secure working environment. This full-time role involves implementing comprehensive policies, guidelines, programs, and initiatives designed to promote effective safety practices and cultivate a robust safety-oriented culture. The Superintendent will be responsible for developing and managing EHS programs to ensure strict compliance with industry regulations and to safeguard employee well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce compliance with NAMA policies, Safety, Health, and Environment Management System procedures, and quality procedures to achieve target rates and maintain NAMA IMS certified standards.
  • Ensure the safety compliance of all subordinates.
  • Develop and coordinate plant procedures on health and safety to maintain a consistent approach to a safe working environment.
  • Determine and coordinate responses to serious accident situations, taking necessary actions and conducting investigations to assess damage and potential risks.
  • Conduct internal benchmarking studies among petrochemical companies to identify best practices and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement safety processes and procedures to ensure a safe, incident-free environment and foster a strong safety culture.
  • Review processes for related hazards and propose interventions to ensure safe operational activities.
  • Incorporate safety precautions, mechanisms, and standards into operating procedures and systems, continuously updating them to align with industry best practices.
  • Conduct detailed risk analysis of operational and maintenance activities with significant risks, providing assessments and suggesting control measures.
  • Maintain risk profiling of the organization and implement monitoring mechanisms during different stages of plant operations.
  • Review engineering projects and processes to incorporate safety standards and specifications for a safe working environment during construction and operation phases.
  • Provide safety guidelines during alterations or modifications, recommending control measures to maintain safety standards.
  • Regularly inspect sites and conduct surveys on accident-prone areas, ensuring compliance with safe working procedures and standards.
  • Conduct investigations of minor incidents independently and participate in investigation teams for major incidents, conducting root cause analyses and drafting investigation reports for management review.
  • Develop awareness and training programs to educate employees on process safety issues and ensure their understanding and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality, and environmental management procedures and controls, promoting employee safety, legislative compliance, high-quality products/services, and environmental responsibility.
  • Conduct safety and fire audits of all company facilities, identifying unsafe conditions and behaviors, and establishing action programs to prioritize and mitigate them.
  • Review safety incident reports, maintain a record of incidents and injuries, and analyze trends to develop strategies and programs addressing those trends.
  • Plan, design, and deliver practical training for employees on safety-related matters, empowering them to identify risks and take appropriate steps to control them.
  • Prepare budgets and safety plans and programs that facilitate the achievement of safety objectives.
  • Develop safety instructions and guidelines following established procedures and internationally recognized safety standards and resolve non-routine problems and emergencies using initiative.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Superintendent, EHS position must possess over 10 years of relevant experience in the field. Additionally, the following qualifications and certifications are required:

  • Training in Safety Management, Risk Analysis and Quantification, Hazard recognition, Statistical Analysis and evaluation, International and Local Safety Standards, and Ergonomics.
  • OSHA or NEBOSH certified.
