About Air Products and the Role

Air Products is seeking a Senior Process Controls Engineer to join its team in Al Jubail, Eastern region. This full-time role involves coordinating, organizing, and executing process controls activities for preventive and corrective maintenance. The position aims to reduce maintenance-related costs while improving plant reliability and availability across various units, including Air Separation Units (ASU), Steam Methane Reformers (HYCO), CO2 capture, utilities, and associated ancillary equipment. The Senior Process Controls Engineer will also provide support to joint venture partners, equipment sales customers, and new customers as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical support for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of process control systems and low-voltage instrumentation and controls equipment.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities in coordination with Maintenance Management, Operations, and Engineering.
• Maintain a safe work environment and provide safety leadership for Management of Change (MOC), Operational/Process Hazard Reviews (OPHR), and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments.
• Support the implementation, audit, and revalidation of Critical Safety Systems (CSS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF).
• Lead execution planning for SAP PM activities covering plant instrumentation, analyzers, gas chromatography, and process control systems, including DCS and local PLCs.
• Maintain long-term instrumentation and controls plans for calibration, spare-parts management, control logic, programming, graphics changes, and system migration.
• Provide engineering support during plant construction and commissioning, ensuring timely closure of punch items and accurate document control.
• Interface with Process Engineering to identify gaps and develop improved operating and control strategies to achieve productivity targets.
• Support plant productivity and improvement projects, including instrument specification, control-system configuration, and detailed cable and wiring design.
• Lead and provide technical support for new installations, existing plant modifications, ongoing operations, and continuous improvement activities.
• Provide technical leadership for investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans for process-control systems and equipment.
• Provide engineering support in developing the annual budget for process-control systems and equipment maintenance, repair, and system upgrades.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5-10 years of experience in process controls engineering.
• Demonstrated technical capability across related disciplines, including process control systems, instrumentation, and safety systems.
• Experience with various technologies such as ASU, HYCO, CO2 production, and H2 mobility.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting support, work instructions, and technical guidance for process control systems.
• Ability to apply project-development and project-management practices, including scope, budget, schedule, and risk planning.

Work Environment

The Senior Process Controls Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Technical Management. The role involves routine interaction with Operations, Maintenance, and Instrument Technicians. The position is based in Al Jubail and supports facilities covering multiple technologies.
