Senior Process Controls Engineer

About the Role

Air Products Qudra is seeking a Senior Process Controls Engineer to join their team in Al Jubail. This full-time role involves coordinating, organizing, and executing process controls activities for preventive and corrective maintenance. The position aims to reduce maintenance-related costs while improving plant reliability and availability across various units, including Air Separation Units (ASU), Steam Methane Reformers (HYCO), CO2 capture, utilities, and associated ancillary equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical support for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of process control systems and low-voltage instrumentation and controls equipment.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities in coordination with Maintenance Management, Operations, and Engineering.
• Maintain a safe work environment and demonstrate leadership in safe-work processes, ensuring appropriate documentation for safety-related activities.
• Offer technical support and safety leadership for Management of Change (MOC), Operational/Process Hazard Reviews (OPHR), and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments.
• Lead execution planning for SAP PM activities covering plant instrumentation, analyzers, gas chromatography, and process control systems, including DCS and local PLCs.
• Maintain long-term instrumentation and controls plans for calibration, spare-parts management, control logic, programming, and system migration.
• Provide engineering support during plant construction and commissioning, ensuring timely closure of punch items and compliance with quality assurance.
• Interface with Process Engineering to identify gaps and develop improved operating and control strategies to achieve productivity targets.
• Lead and provide technical support for new installations, existing plant modifications, and continuous improvement activities across facilities.
• Provide technical leadership for investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.

Operational and Maintenance Support

• Support commissioning teams during start-up and troubleshooting activities and participate in Operations training.
• Assist Operations in maintaining accurate document control and monitoring quality assurance initiatives.
• Establish and maintain close working relationships with Process Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance personnel to monitor plant performance and process-control systems.
• Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans for process-control systems and equipment.
• Provide engineering support for turnarounds and major maintenance activities.
• Guide the Maintenance team in setting spare-parts inventory levels and developing inventory strategies.

Project Management and Professional Development

• Apply project-development and project-management practices, including scope, budget, schedule, and risk planning for projects and turnaround activities.
• Provide engineering support in developing the annual budget for process-control systems and equipment maintenance.
• Lead by example, promoting teamwork through open communication and timely issue resolution.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety performance, reliability, and cost of quality.
• Support, mentor, and develop instrument technicians and less-experienced engineers.

Qualifications and Experience

• 10 years of experience in process controls engineering.
• Demonstrated technical capability across related disciplines, including teamwork, clear communication, organization, change management, work-process optimization, planning, and leadership.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Al Jubail. The role involves routine interaction with Operations, Maintenance, and Instrument Technicians, providing troubleshooting support, work instructions, and technical guidance for process control systems across multiple technologies.
