About Mott MacDonald and the Role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join its team in Riyadh, operating on a full-time basis. This role involves leading project teams on building structures projects, combining technical delivery with managerial leadership. The successful candidate will apply a strong structural engineering background to deliver quality outcomes across a variety of built environment projects, ensuring adherence to agreed scope, budget, and timescales.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of concept, scheme, and detailed design calculations and drawings for structural engineering projects.
• Prepare designs, specifications, calculations, drawings, and risk assessments for maintenance, refurbishment, and new build schemes, obtaining statutory approvals as required.
• Undertake structural engineering analysis and design across building structures projects.
• Present technical aspects of projects and structural design approaches to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current technical engineering codes and practices, contributing to technical matters at project and divisional levels.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

The Principal Structural Engineer will provide technical direction throughout concept, scheme, and detailed design stages. This includes promoting a collaborative working approach and actively mentoring junior engineers and technicians to support their technical development. The role also involves the preparation and review of designs, specifications, calculations, drawings, risk assessments, and other technical outputs.

Project Delivery and Quality Assurance

• Be accountable for the timely production and delivery of reliable design solutions, reports, specifications, and drawings.
• Provide effective task and resource management, monitoring delivery against agreed scope, programme, and budget.
• Inspect works carried out on site and monitor quality and compliance with design requirements.
• Provide structural technical support and manage the technical accuracy of project delivery.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates for this Principal Structural Engineer position are expected to possess 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, demonstrating a strong background in leading building structures projects. This experience should encompass technical delivery, managerial leadership, and the ability to guide projects through all design stages.
