Registrar ICU

About the Role

National Medical Care Company (Care) is seeking an ICU Registrar to provide comprehensive care to inpatient critically ill patients. This role is based in Riyadh and requires 2-5 years of experience. The Registrar will ensure a high level of professional performance in accordance with evidence-based medicine, professional medical ethics, CBAHI/JCIA standards, hospital medical by-laws, and Ministry of Health regulations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure superior quality medical treatment, compassion, and understanding for all patients.
• Perform history taking, physical examinations, and interpret common diagnostic tests, documenting patient conditions upon admission.
• Admit patients from the ER after discussion and approval from the supervising Consultant.
• Evaluate new admissions and coordinate with the Consultant to establish investigation and management plans, then execute approved plans.
• Conduct daily rounds for all departmental patients and liaise with Consultants regarding inpatient care.
• Document patient management plans and maintain accurate, timely, and legible medical records with updated progress notes.
• Seek Consultant advice when a patient's condition requires further expertise, working under their supervision.
• Prepare discharge summaries, death reports, and special reports for relevant patients.
• Present new admissions during daily morning reports.
• Actively participate in the departmental on-call rota for patient care and admissions, responding to emergencies within the specialty.
• Assist Senior Staff (Consultants) in performing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
• Supervise Junior Staff in their duties as designated by the department.
• Uphold patient security, confidentiality, and privacy.
• Actively participate in departmental educational and training activities.
• Adhere to department policies, procedures, hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
• Carry out administrative, organizational, and other duties assigned by the Head of Department related to ICU/CCU.

Patient and Family Education

• Educate patients and families according to their needs, implementing the patient/family education process as per policy and procedure, including documentation.
• Involve patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
• Provide health promotion and teaching using methods appropriate to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situation.
• Allocate necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education, ensuring appropriate documentation.

Reporting Structure

The ICU Registrar reports directly to the Head of Department. This role involves liaison with all physicians, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.

Supervision

The Registrar supervises all Residents, Nurses, and other paramedical staff assigned to them, ensuring adherence to departmental guidelines and patient care standards.

Additional Duties

The Registrar will carry out any other assignments as directed by the Head of Department, provided they are within the scope of their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
