Role Overview

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital in Riyadh is seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Technician for a full-time position. This role involves performing a range of laboratory procedures in adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Senior Medical Laboratory Technician also leads a workgroup, supervises technical personnel, and ensures compliance with various accreditation and safety standards within the hospital's mission, vision, and values. Candidates should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a workgroup within the assigned section and perform day-to-day duties.
• Assist the Manager/Supervisor with staff scheduling and supervise the work and performance of technical personnel.
• Contribute to generating, maintaining, and updating the section’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Assist the Manager/Supervisor in the evaluation of staff within the assigned section.

Operational Duties

• Perform patient sample analysis and proficiency surveys as applicable.
• Monitor section equipment function, conduct preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot instrument malfunctions.
• Analyze laboratory computer applications for effective data management.
• Assist in the ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment, request additional supplies, and ensure cost-effective utilization of materials, reagents, and supplies.
• Identify technical, instrumental, and/or physiological causes of unexpected test results.
• Perform other job-related duties and on-call duties as assigned, adhering to the work schedule, including shifts.

Training and Development

• Responsible for the training and guidance of Medical Laboratory Technician II & III to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Participate in Section/Department educational programs.
• Assist in the training of Medical Technologist/Technician students, new staff, medical students, and Pathology residents.
• Participate in teaching, training, verification, competency testing, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
• Assist the Manager/Supervisor in evaluating new equipment and maintaining up-to-date information on developments in Laboratory Technology.

Quality and Compliance

• Perform duties in accordance with the Joint Commission of International Accreditation (JCIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI), and KAAUH Laboratory Standards.
• Ensure duties are performed in compliance with Hospital policies and safety standards.
• Ensure documentation of section quality improvement activities.
• Participate in and support quality improvement and patient safety activities, both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have 4 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician. This role requires a commitment to patient-centered care, demonstrating respect for patients and their families. The ability to work effectively within a team and adhere to scheduled duties, including shifts and on-call responsibilities, is essential.
