About King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH)

King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) is a leading healthcare institution located in Riyadh. The hospital is dedicated to providing specialized ophthalmic care and maintaining high standards of patient service. We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Charge Nurse to join our full-time nursing team.

Role Summary: Charge Nurse

The Charge Nurse supervises the clinical activities of all nursing personnel on assigned shifts and coordinates clinical activities among the multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role is essential for maintaining high-quality nursing care for all patients and serves as a role model for unit personnel, ensuring adherence to professional standards and ethical guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate clinical practice and resource management activities proactively, utilizing critical thinking and prioritization skills.
  • Manage potential emergency situations competently, including code blue and other critical events.
  • Uphold the International Council for Nurses - Code of Ethics, providing support to nursing staff in ethical situations and escalating complex issues to Senior Nursing Management.
  • Implement patient care systems, assigning care based on patient acuity, staff skills, and educational needs.
  • Assess patient clinical status and care needs through ongoing reviews of medical records and daily patient rounds.
  • Obtain and provide comprehensive patient reports during admission, post-op, and shift changes to ensure continuity of care.
  • Plan and coordinate patient care needs with the multidisciplinary team, including conducting physician rounds and communicating with medical staff.
  • Oversee interdepartmental communication for appointments, diagnostic investigations, medical reports, and discharge planning.
  • Direct and supervise clinical activities, supporting Registered Nurses (RNs) in clinical decisions for high-risk patients.
  • Serve as a resource for policies and procedures (P&P) standards, equipment use, and operation.
  • Coordinate patient teaching needs across the multidisciplinary team and provide direction for admission, pre-op, post-op, and discharge teaching.
  • Inform the Nursing Manager of unit activities, unusual events, and patient problems, providing detailed shift reports.
  • Evaluate patient care and nursing practice, ensuring documentation meets P&P standards and reviewing patient records for deficiencies.
  • Plan and develop staffing schedules, coordinate staff rotation, and assess staff development needs.
  • Participate in staff performance appraisals, provide unit in-service training, and coordinate educational activities.
  • Contribute as a Unit Management team member, attend relevant meetings, and implement counseling or corrective actions as directed.
  • Maintain awareness of cost-effectiveness, quality control systems, equipment maintenance, and medication storage.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated current ophthalmic, medical, and surgical knowledge, with the ability to apply basic pathophysiology.
  • In-depth understanding of the nursing process and expertise in technical nursing skills.
  • Strong coordination, supervision, critical thinking, and prioritization abilities.
  • Proficiency in managing emergency situations and upholding ethical standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and resource for nursing staff.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing in the country of professional practice (Diploma from Western and similar countries, otherwise Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of working experience in an acute healthcare/hospital setting (100 beds or more).
  • At least two (2) years of the required experience must be in Medical/Surgical/Pediatric/Operating Room/Post Anesthesia Recovery Room/High Dependency Unit/Emergency Room areas at the level of Charge Nurse, Head Nurse, or Assistant Head Nurse position, or demonstrating leadership qualities during relief Charge Nurse assignments.
  • Current License as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the country of professional practice.
  • Valid Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) Classification and Registration in good standing.
