About the Role

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Life Safety Engineer to join the Transportation Project Delivery team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves contributing to a multi-disciplinary Transportation project, focusing on Fire Life Safety aspects throughout the design and construction phases. The position requires 5-10 years of experience and offers opportunities to develop technical leadership skills within a large-scale project environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide subject matter expertise and guidance on life safety systems design and construction, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Support the development of governance and process documentation for life safety systems engineering practices.
Represent the PMCM team in coordinating Fire Life and Safety matters with authorities having jurisdiction.
Ensure life safety systems design and construction meet technical requirements through design reviews, submittal reviews, inspections, and testing.
Offer engineering expertise to the construction supervision team via field inspections during various construction stages.
Assess alternative compliance proposals from contractors, providing feedback on feasibility and alignment with client requirements.
Coordinate technical elements of the program related to life safety systems engineering, including establishing targets and goals.
Manage the interface between engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across client programs.
Review contractor/designer deliverables for compliance with requirements, codes, and standards.
Monitor designer input during the construction phase, including RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, and punch lists.
Prepare management-level progress reports and briefings on fire and life safety systems design progress, issues, and opportunities.
Coach, mentor, and support career development for client staff members as required.
Maintain a proactive safety aptitude and contribute positively to a culture of safety.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Demonstrable experience (5-10 years) in the design, design supervision, construction, and commissioning of transport-related facilities involving passenger flows.
Experience should cover mechanical, electrical, passive, and active fire protection systems. Railway-related experience is considered advantageous.
Expertise in Fire Protection in buildings through passive and active systems.
Expertise in smoke management using passive and active solutions, including evaluation of CFD models.
Expertise in occupant safety, compartmentation, evacuation, and pedestrian flow models.
Knowledge of Life Safety systems, standards, regulations, codes, laws, authority requirements, and technologies.
Experience and knowledge of agency jurisdictions in Riyadh will be considered a plus.
Knowledge of field construction, project management, and procurement methods and practices, including standard safety requirements, construction procedures, document control, site acceptance testing, and factory acceptance testing.

Skills and Attributes

Attention to detail and accuracy in completing inspection and examination testing paperwork.
Collaborative approach and effective communication skills.
Good organizational skills, accustomed to a fast-paced office environment combining design review, engineering, construction supervision, and administration.
Adaptability to flexible working hours arrangements.
Experience working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the wider Middle East region is preferred.
