The Role: Principal Specialist, Aluminum

Ma'aden is seeking a Principal Specialist, Aluminum to join its team in Riyadh. This is a full-time, senior position that offers an opportunity to contribute to the company's growth and play a key part in shaping the future of mining in the Kingdom.

Role Purpose and Scope

The Principal Specialist for Aluminum is responsible for driving advanced research, breakthrough technology development, and industrial innovation across the entire aluminum value chain. This includes areas such as bauxite beneficiation, alumina refining, aluminum smelting, recycling, new product development, and value-adding initiatives. The role involves leading high-impact R&D programs, overseeing pilot and scale-up activities, and ensuring that innovation translates into measurable operational, financial, and sustainability outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Define and execute the Aluminum Innovation & R&D roadmap, ensuring alignment with corporate growth strategy.
Identify emerging technologies capable of delivering step-change improvements in cost, yield, energy intensity, and carbon footprint.
Lead technology scouting, benchmarking, and foster external partnerships with local and global research institutes and technology providers.
Lead applied research programs focused on Bayer process optimization, red mud valorization and waste reduction technologies, smelter current efficiency optimization, cell design improvements, advanced anode materials, and aluminum recycling.
Develop laboratories, pilot, and demonstration-scale test programs.
Oversee techno-economic evaluations, including CAPEX/OPEX, NPV, IRR, and payback analysis for new technologies.
Evaluate renewable energy integration and inert anode technologies.
Drive red mud and by-product valorization programs.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this senior role should possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in advanced research, technology development, and industrial innovation within the aluminum sector. A strong background in leading R&D programs and overseeing pilot-scale activities is required.
