About the Role
National Medical Care is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our team in Riyadh. This full-time role involves providing comprehensive respiratory care to assigned patients, encompassing the administration of therapeutic drugs with potentially serious side effects and the use of various diagnostic and technical equipment. The scope of modalities ranges from simple sputum induction to complex mechanical life support ventilator management, requiring independent judgment due to the technical nature of the care provided. Work is performed during assigned rotating shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a high quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding for all patients served at Riyadh Care Hospitals and Clinics.
- Perform as an active member of the Cardiopulmonary resuscitation team.
- Prepare and maintain emergency kits for airway intubation.
- Evaluate and manage assigned patients receiving mechanical life support ventilation, consulting with physicians for parameter adjustments and instituting prescribed changes.
- Provide, evaluate, and document the administration of incentive spirometry, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, mechanical ventilation management, sputum induction, and chest physiotherapy as prescribed by the attending physician.
- Perform bedside pulmonary mechanics testing for diagnostic evaluation of a patient’s pulmonary status.
- Obtain, analyze, and assess arterial blood gas and acid-base data, reporting findings to the prescribing and/or attending physician.
- Provide portable oxygen and other supportive respiratory equipment for intra and inter-hospital patient transportation.
- Deliver aerosolized medications for inhalation and administer supplemental oxygen as prescribed, selecting appropriate devices.
- Confirm the identity of all patients receiving treatment.
- Instruct patients and family members in the use of therapeutic measures and lung expansion techniques as prescribed or indicated.
- Initiate automatic stop orders for selected ongoing therapies requiring physician re-assessment, in accordance with hospital policy.
- Assist physicians in performing bronchoscopies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of modality type, patient response, and any adverse reactions, notifying relevant staff and initiating emergency procedures as needed.
Patient and Family Education
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for educating patients and their families according to their needs, aligning with the patient and family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014), including comprehensive documentation in the patient medical record. This involves actively involving patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices. Health promotion and teaching are provided through methods appropriate to the patient’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and specific situations. Adequate time is allotted to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education, with appropriate documentation.
Equipment Management and Standards
- Evaluate and maintain the proper operating condition of diagnostic and technical equipment/instruments, ensuring cleanliness, sterility, maintenance, and repair to meet safety standards for both patients and medical staff.
- Adhere to Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospital Standards related to the prevention, control, and spread of communicable diseases via the respiratory route or mediated by respiratory therapy.
- Comply with Infection Control standards, safety, and environmental health practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this role should possess 2 to 5 years of relevant experience as a Respiratory Therapist. The position requires a professional who can apply independent judgment in a technically demanding environment.
Work Environment and Professional Development
This full-time position operates on assigned rotating shifts. The role includes participation in in-service education and clinical instruction for newly hired Respiratory Therapists, fostering continuous professional growth. Additionally, the Respiratory Therapist will perform other tasks and duties assigned by superiors that fall within the scope of their knowledge, skills, and responsibilities.
