The Role of Senior Materials Engineer

SYSTRA is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time role involves conducting design reviews, material investigations, inspections, and testing activities. The primary objective is to ensure that contractor-selected materials and construction processes comply with project specifications and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess concrete mix designs for compliance with project requirements and standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and implement material improvement initiatives.
• Conduct design reviews, material investigations, inspections, and testing to verify material and process compliance.
• Recommend appropriate materials for specific engineering and construction applications.
• Assess material characteristics and performance properties, including durability, sustainability, and resistance.
• Evaluate material properties to determine the feasibility of proposed material substitutions.
• Review the impact of new standards, code revisions, and specification changes on project materials.
• Identify non-conforming materials and workmanship, maintain quality records, and ensure corrective actions.
• Provide technical support and guidance on material performance issues and construction challenges.
• Review and approve contractor quality plans, material procedures, and related documentation.
• Assess environmental implications of materials, products, and construction processes.
• Review and approve material testing results for compliance with performance requirements.
• Prepare technical reports and evaluations related to material suppliers, products, and performance.
• Develop and manage supplier audit programs and conduct quality audits as required.
• Provide site support and technical advice regarding material failures, specification deviations, and other construction material concerns.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in materials engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to review and assess concrete mix designs.
• Experience in conducting material investigations, inspections, and testing.
• Proficiency in evaluating material characteristics and performance properties.
• Strong understanding of relevant project specifications and industry standards.

Work Location

This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
