Soil and Construction Materials Laboratory Technician

About the Role

Alqotr is seeking a Soil and Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves performing laboratory and field testing of soil and construction materials, preparing samples, operating testing equipment, and accurately documenting results. The technician will ensure compliance with laboratory quality and safety procedures, as well as ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements. The position requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, identify, label, and prepare samples according to approved procedures.
• Perform soil testing, including particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, moisture content, specific gravity, and standard and modified compaction tests.
• Assist with soil bearing capacity, shear strength, and other geotechnical tests within the laboratory's scope.
• Prepare, preserve, and document borehole samples, including depths and sampling locations.
• Participate in field testing and assist with conducting and documenting Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) under supervision.
• Operate testing equipment and perform pre-use checks according to approved instructions.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and report malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
• Comply with calibration and verification requirements, refraining from using unfit equipment.

Quality Assurance and Documentation

• Adhere to approved laboratory operating and quality control procedures.
• Record raw data, test results, and maintain sample, equipment, and maintenance records.
• Report errors, unusual results, and nonconformities, and provide assistance during internal audits and external assessments.
• Ensure test results are not altered and reports are not approved without formal authorization.

Occupational Health and Safety

• Comply with health and safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment in the laboratory and at field sites.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, handle equipment safely, and report hazards and incidents.

Qualifications and Requirements

• 2-5 years of experience in soil and construction materials testing.
• Willingness to work in the laboratory and travel to project sites and borehole locations as required.
• Commitment to confidentiality, quality, and safety requirements.
• Participation in training and professional development programs.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, involving both laboratory work and field assignments at project sites and borehole locations. The role requires adherence to strict quality and safety protocols, including ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards.
