About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia and the Role

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia serves as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor, providing essential equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia under Government-to-Government arrangements. This includes critical maintenance for Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and comprehensive training for RSAF personnel. The company is deeply committed to supporting the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, including Saudisation initiatives and the development of Saudi National capabilities through strategic partnerships and industrialisation efforts. We are seeking a Systems Manager – Avionics to join our team in Riyadh on a full-time basis.

Role Purpose and Scope

As the Systems Manager – Avionics, you will report directly to the Trials and Integration Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to provide functional assistance and support to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Engineering Authority (EA) Section Manager. This role involves supporting, guiding, and assisting the RSAF in the development and exploitation of their EA capability. You will maintain daily contact with senior RSAF personnel within the Department of Aeronautical Engineering (DoAE), offering support for all avionic system integration activities. The position requires significant flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to provide support across all RSAF bases within the Kingdom, RSAF HQ, and any other location as directed by the RSAF Director of Aeronautical Engineering or their nominated section manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain awareness of BAE Systems Saudi Arabia engineering best practices and share this knowledge with the RSAF Directorate of Aeronautical Engineering.
• Provide functional guidance and support to the RSAF EA in developing an indigenous capability for managing changes to air-systems and their supporting MPOL.
• Offer functional guidance and assistance in the definition, planning, and review of qualification and certification activities undertaken by the RSAF EA for avionic system service modifications.
• Assist the RSAF EA in the development of Hazard Analysis and Safety Cases prior to commencing any activity.
• Support the RSAF EA in identifying and developing supporting evidence required to achieve necessary confidence levels for system changes.
• Assist the RSAF EA with investigations into system safety-related incidents and accidents, and provide evaluations and recommendations on defect and incident reports for BAE Systems platforms.
• Support and assist the RSAF in generating system integration plans and procedures for changes to existing systems to enhance safety, reliability, maintainability, or performance.
• Provide functional assistance in the development of system trials, integration, and testing procedures and documentation to verify performance against specification requirements.
• Offer functional assistance in the acceptance testing of aircraft avionic systems and equipment modifications or upgrades.
• Provide functional support to RSAF Officers during meetings.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

This role requires maintaining robust working relationships with various stakeholders, including other RSAF Directorates, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia deployed engineering resources at RSAF Bases, Platform project teams, MODSAP, and functional/networking links to BAE Systems Business Units. Effective executive liaison with internal and external elements is crucial to fulfilling the company’s strategic objectives.

Commitment to National Capability Development

A significant aspect of this position involves contributing to the development of Saudi National engineers within the team. You will be responsible for the professional mentoring of a Saudi National GG5 professional engineer, adhering to an agreed Learning and Development plan. This mentorship is part of BAE Systems' Saudisation plans, with the ultimate goal for this Senior Systems-Avionic GG5 professional engineer to replace the EE executive manager upon promotion to GG11.

Work Environment

The role is full-time and based in Riyadh, but requires extensive travel and support across all RSAF bases within the Kingdom, RSAF HQ, and potentially other locations as operational needs dictate. The environment is dynamic, involving close collaboration with senior RSAF personnel and various BAE Systems teams, emphasizing a commitment to national defense and capability building.
