Workplace Health and Safety Officer

About the Role

Amazon Saudi Arabia is seeking a Workplace Health and Safety Officer for a full-time position in Riyadh. This role involves partnering with the site operations team at a delivery station to implement company safety policies and ensure compliance with local and regional regulations. The officer will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risks and maintain a safe working environment for Associates, reporting to the site WHS manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with Amazon WHS standards and policies.
• Measure site performance against safety policy requirements and develop implementation plans for identified deficiencies.
• Deliver projects to Operations on time and to quality standards.
• Analyze safety metrics and incident trends to allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas.
• Ensure proper incident investigation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
• Perform frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment or processes and implement solutions to prevent injury.
• Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure accurate and consistent training, auditing, and scoring methods.
• Lead and mentor Safety Associates within the assigned facility during peak periods.
• Gather input from Safety teams, Associates, and leaders on safety program improvement opportunities and communicate progress.
• Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy, auditing the quality and effectiveness of all required safety training.
• Manage PPE inventory at the site and coordinate procurement orders.
• Implement best practices, including PIT (powered industrial truck) safety, yard safety systems, and standard Work Permit System usage.
• Ensure safe contractor management at the site.
• Implement and deliver basic safety training for Associates according to a set calendar.
• Collaborate with the facility team to ensure preventive maintenance of fire protection and emergency equipment.
• Ensure requirements for basic Fire Fighting and first aid training are met.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 3+ years of experience in a relevant field.
• Thorough understanding of local and regional WHS regulations and company policy.
• Excellent knowledge of safety programs, environmental, and ergonomic expertise.

Skills and Attributes

• Ability to build trust and confidence with operations teams and inspire change through risk assessments and safety data analysis.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey clear, concise, and consistent messages.
• Capability to instruct and train Operations Leaders in Amazon WHS policies and assist site teams in incorporating safety standards.
• A proactive approach to identifying and implementing best practices for continuous safety improvement.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role requires flexibility to work in shifts as part of the site WHS team.
