Research Scientist, Environmental Chemistry

King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) is seeking a qualified Research Scientist to join its Center for Environment & Marine Studies. This full-time position is based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and requires expertise in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry to support critical research initiatives.

About the Center and the Role

The Center for Environment & Marine Studies at KFUPM focuses on environmental monitoring and the precise determination of hazardous contaminants. The Research Scientist will play a key role in these efforts, applying specialized knowledge to analyze various environmental samples, including water, sediment, and biota.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sample analysis for the quantification of diverse environmental pollutants using analytical techniques such as GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, and LC-MS.
• Provide training to junior chemists on advanced analytical techniques.
• Conduct basic and applied research in areas including water treatment, analytical method development, and environmental monitoring.
• Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
• Prepare and write research proposals.

Qualifications and Experience

• A ** degree in Analytical Chemistry is required.
• Experience in research centers similar to the Center for Environment & Marine Studies, specifically in environmental monitoring and the determination of hazardous contaminants such as TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon), PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon), polychlorinated compounds, and BTEX (benzene, ethylbenzene, and toluene) in water, sediment, and biota samples.
• Proficiency in using analytical instruments including GC-MS, HPLC, and LC-MS.
• A significant number of articles published in reputable journals.
• Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary research groups.
• A strong track record of research and independent project management.
