Role Overview

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking a Senior Staff Surgeon, Vascular to join our team in Dhahran. This full-time position is dedicated to providing high-standard, cost-effective vascular services to eligible medical recipients. The successful candidate will operate under the supervision of an Attending Physician and execute all duties strictly within the approved Credentials and Privileges granted by the Hospital Credentials & Privileging Committee. Candidates should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience in vascular surgery.

In-patient and Out-patient Care

The Senior Staff Surgeon, Vascular is responsible for comprehensive patient management across various clinical settings, ensuring continuous and high-quality care. Key duties include:

• Assessing and admitting patients from the Emergency Room, out-patient clinics, and transfers from other hospitals, as directed by the Attending Physician.
• Carrying out necessary investigations and admission work-ups.
• Performing day-to-day patient assessment, planning, and executing management under the supervision of the Attending Physician.
• Conducting daily rounds on admitted patients and assigned consults during workdays, and attending to patients requiring re-evaluation throughout the workday.
• Providing weekend coverage for admitted patients as per specific service arrangements and responding to emergency calls in a timely manner.
• Participating in trauma care, Code Blue, or rapid response care according to established credentials and privileges.
• Answering in-patient consultations within the required timeframe in conjunction with consulting services, and conducting rounds on related service intensive care unit patients when on-call.
• Planning and preparing patients for discharge as appropriate, and providing in-house 24-hour call when required as per the monthly on-call schedule.
• Attending assigned out-patient medical/surgical and procedural clinics within approved ambulatory credentials and privileges.
• Referring patients to other services where appropriate, and evaluating patients in the emergency room to perform minor emergency surgical procedures when required.

Operating Room and Procedural Responsibilities

This role involves active participation in surgical environments and procedural areas, upholding high standards of care and professionalism. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting in the operating room when assigned to a particular service or attending surgeon.
• Performing operative procedures and perioperative anesthetic management within approved privileges.
• Maintaining punctuality and professionalism within the operating room environment.
• Keeping patients' caregivers or guardians informed of procedure outcomes when required.
• Dictating timely and appropriate operative reports.
• Ensuring safe patient transfer out of the operating room by completing all required documentation.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Communication

Effective communication and collaboration are integral to this role, involving daily interactions with a wide range of medical professionals and patient families. Key aspects include:

• Daily contact with hospitalized patients and their families, nurses, other physicians, and medical staff.
• Close collaboration with Emergency Medical Service, Clinical Medicine Services, Surgical & Diagnostic Services, and Radiology Services, as well as other respective services requesting care.
• Attending service clinical and educational rounds, including morning reports and sign-out rounds when appropriate.
• Attending and participating in multi-disciplinary team rounds and service/department business meetings.
• Preparing and providing patient reports as required within hospital policy.
• Participating actively when assigned to a given committee.

Quality, Safety, and Professional Development

Maintaining high standards of quality, patient safety, and continuous professional growth is paramount. Responsibilities include:

• Attending and participating in service/department Quality and Safety activities, including reviews, audits, and presentations.
• Reporting patients' adverse events to the appropriate department/service office.
• Keeping apprised of, and adhering to, hospital and departmental policies and bylaws.
• Ensuring legible and timely entries into patients' records, maintaining complete patient case records, and adhering to hospital policy regarding patient record confidentiality.
• Participating in medical records audits when required.
• Participating in teaching and educational activities for junior staff, medical students, and interns.
• Keeping up to date with knowledge and skills required to perform duties safely.
• Maintaining adequate continuous medical education credits as required by hospital and licensing authorities.

Qualifications

Candidates for the Senior Staff Surgeon, Vascular position are expected to meet the following qualifications:

• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in vascular surgery or a closely related field.
• Possession of approved Credentials & Privileges as determined by a Hospital Credentials & Privileging Committee.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous medical education and professional development.
