About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a Manager FWA Data Science to join their team in Makkah, with operations spanning Jeddah and Makkah. This full-time role is central to transforming validated analytical prototypes into robust, scalable, and measurable fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) detection models ready for production. The role requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Role Context and Impact

The Manager FWA Data Science will own the entire lifecycle of FWA detection models, including enhancement, feature engineering, calibration, validation, explainability, performance assessment, and continuous improvement. Working closely with Actuarial, Claims Integrity, and FWA AI Engineering teams, this position ensures that FWA detection models remain effective, relevant, and aligned with evolving fraud patterns post-deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess AI/ML prototypes from Actuarial teams, refining model logic and improving statistical rigor.
  • Enhance feature engineering methodologies and validate prototype assumptions.
  • Develop explainable detection methodologies and support the migration of approved analytical models to cloud-based solutions.
  • Improve and retrain FWA models using new data and investigation outcomes, developing advanced fraud detection features and enhancing anomaly detection models.
  • Build risk scoring methodologies and improve model precision and operational effectiveness.
  • Define model success metrics, monitor precision, recall, and business impact, and perform false-positive and false-negative analysis.
  • Validate model outputs with investigators and support production readiness reviews.
  • Analyze investigation outcomes to identify emerging fraud behaviors, design new detection features, and recommend modifications to existing models.
  • Collaborate with FWA operations on evolving threats and monitor the business effectiveness of deployed models.
  • Recommend retraining and recalibration activities, support periodic model reviews, and maintain model documentation and governance artifacts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 10 years of experience in data science, with a focus on fraud detection or similar analytical model development.
  • Demonstrated experience in model industrialization, enhancement, validation, and performance assessment.
  • Proficiency in developing and deploying scalable data science models.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify emerging patterns and recommend data-driven solutions.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, with responsibilities covering operations in Jeddah and Makkah. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Actuarial, Claims Integrity, and FWA AI Engineering.
