About the Role

International Maritime Industries is seeking a Lead Commissioning Superintendent, Instrumentation, to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of instrumentation and control systems for new-build offshore jack-up drilling rigs. This full-time position is based in Ras Tannurah, Eastern region, and focuses on ensuring safe, reliable system operation, regulatory compliance, and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of instrumentation commissioning plans, procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs), method statements, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Direct the commissioning, testing, calibration, verification, and startup of instrumentation systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration monitoring, and associated field devices.
  • Lead functional testing, integration, and performance verification of control valves, actuators, Fire & Gas systems, ESD/SIS loops, and critical safety instrumented functions.
  • Oversee loop checks, calibration activities, functional testing, energization, FATs, SATs, and system performance verification.
  • Manage commissioning interfaces among engineering, construction, operations, OEM vendors, client representatives, and classification societies.
  • Oversee the commissioning and integration of drilling instrumentation, HVAC/BMS controls, monitoring systems, and auxiliary instrumentation packages.
  • Direct commissioning activities in accordance with project specifications, API, IEC, classification society requirements, and quality standards.
  • Promote and enforce compliance with permit-to-work systems, SIMOPS requirements, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and project HSE procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and closeout of commissioning documentation, including check sheets, loop folders, test reports, red-line markups, vendor reports, ITRs, MC/RFCC/RFOC certificates, and handover dossiers.
  • Direct punch-list management, construction-to-commissioning transitions, readiness assessments, as-built documentation, O&M manual development, and final handover activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience: 12-15 years of experience in instrumentation commissioning, with a minimum of 8 years in offshore rigs, ideally jack-up rig newbuilds.
  • Professional Qualifications: Knowledge of Omega 365 PIMS is beneficial. Equivalent experience in drilling or rig construction & commissioning is also beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with:

    • Drilling control systems
    • Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS)
    • Fire & Gas, Marine & ESD systems
    • DP & jacking systems instrumentation (if applicable)

This role operates within the dynamic environment of new-build offshore jack-up drilling rig projects, requiring coordination with various stakeholders including engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and classification societies.
