Assistant Driller

About the Role

Virtucruit is partnering with a leading mining company in Saudi Arabia to appoint an Assistant Driller within the Drilling Department. This full-time position is based in the Al Joshwan mountain range at 1,750m above sea level, in Najran. The role is suited for individuals who are prepared for remote work environments and are committed to achieving high performance and delivering quality test results.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the highest level of safety, health, and environmental work standards are maintained.
• Assist with drilling activities, including mixing drilling fluids, assembling drilling tools, connecting sections of drill pipe, and operating machinery.
• Support the driller in equipment operation, such as raising and lowering the drill string and bit, maintaining rotation speed, weight on the bit, and mud circulation rate.
• Collect samples, ensuring bags/cores are correctly labeled, legible, kept in numeric order according to designated footages, and securely closed.
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
• Perform inspections and simple repairs on Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs (Epiroc Boyles and Diamec).
• Coordinate more complex repairs with the Lead Driller and M&R team.
• Maintain records of drilling conditions, measurements, and progress.
• Support the lead driller in logistics and maintenance activities.
• Assist in rigging up/down and moving to new drill locations.
• Fuel site equipment and assist in preventative maintenance (Oil Changes, Greasing, Fueling, etc.).
• Complete daily site inspections, mast inspections, and pre-shift inspections on all equipment.
• Maximize core recovery and monitor hole direction targets.
• Troubleshoot complex downhole problems.
• Identify basic mechanical issues on the drill rig.
• Maintain a safe work site and equipment.
• Comply with Health & Safety requirements and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Driller/Drilling Supervisor.
• Support the development and training of local nationals through mentorship, guidance, and coaching.

Qualifications and Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Standard First Aid Certification is required (Basic Safety Orientation is an asset).
• Technical Diploma or High School education with equivalent years of experience.
• Willingness to travel as required.
• Ability to work outdoors and/or in a shop environment.
• Holding a transferable Iqama and being available in the Kingdom is an advantage.
• Must be able to drive a light 4x4 vehicle and hold a valid Driver's License.
• Local to KSA or willing to relocate (a roster is offered for expatriates).
• Willingness to work in shifts and flexible time schedules.
• Ability to work in remote locations and in all weather conditions.
