About the Head of Engineering Role at Webook

Webook (******** is Saudi Arabia's leading event ticketing and experience booking platform, recognized for its technology, features, and agility. Having surpassed 2 billion in sales by serving major events across the Kingdom, the company is seeking a Head of Engineering to join its full-time team in Riyadh. This role involves leading engineering efforts to drive technical excellence and strategic alignment within a high-growth environment.

Leadership and Team Enablement Responsibilities

The Head of Engineering will be responsible for leading and developing engineering teams, cultivating a culture focused on ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence. Key responsibilities include:

Defining and communicating the technical vision, priorities, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Providing guidance and mentorship on architecture, system design, and technical decision-making processes.
Driving team performance and operational efficiency to ensure consistent execution.
Supporting the hiring, onboarding, and career development initiatives within the engineering function.

Technical Oversight and Strategy

This role involves comprehensive technical oversight and strategic input to maintain and advance the platform's capabilities:

Overseeing system architecture and technical standards to ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Reviewing and approving major technical initiatives, balancing innovation with operational stability.
Promoting engineering best practices in coding, documentation, testing, and observability.
Contributing to high-impact technical decisions and providing hands-on guidance for complex problems when necessary.

Operational Excellence

The Head of Engineering will ensure operational efficiency and continuous improvement across all engineering functions:

Monitoring engineering processes, workflows, and delivery metrics to ensure consistent execution.
Ensuring cross-team alignment, knowledge sharing, and technical consistency throughout the organization.
Leading initiatives for incident response, performance monitoring, and post-mortems.
Acting as a point of escalation for complex operational or technical challenges.
Leveraging AI to identify opportunities for improving product experiences, streamlining operations, and enhancing team productivity.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position should meet the following criteria:

A minimum of 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
At least 5 years in a leadership role, guiding teams within a high-growth environment.
Proven experience in delivering high-traffic, mission-critical platforms.
Demonstrated ability to own technical strategy, operational processes, and team enablement.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience contributing to open-source projects or technical thought leadership is considered an advantage.
