Role Summary

AstraZeneca is expanding its presence in rare diseases following the acquisition of Alexion in 2021. This full-time Senior Product Specialist Meta+ Rare Disease position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and reports directly to the Sales Manager. The role is responsible for generating clinical demand for rare disease medicines among healthcare professionals (HCPs), identifying new patient targets, and developing strategic relationships with HCPs and Key External Experts (KEEs). The specialist will serve as an expert in their therapeutic area, product, and territory knowledge, working closely with the Sales Manager to implement the company's account management strategy in the local market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage HCPs to promote knowledge of rare disease medicines, including value propositions, approved indications, efficacy/safety profiles, and treatment protocols, using science-driven messages and appropriate channels.
  • Achieve or exceed sales objectives within the assigned region, ensuring accurate and timely tracking and reporting of sales activities.
  • Demonstrate in-depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge of relevant disease states and product mechanisms of action.
  • Improve patient identification and diagnosis, and manage market development objectives, strategies, tactics, and action plans within the territory.
  • Increase disease awareness among key target groups and collaborate with HCPs to identify and test high-risk patients for relevant diseases.
  • Establish and develop a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) network within the territory.
  • Liaise with cross-functional medical, marketing, market access, and diagnostic teams to foster long-term relationships and advocacy with KOLs, HCP accounts, and other external stakeholders.
  • Organize workshops and educational events to facilitate knowledge sharing among relevant HCPs.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Manager and/or Franchise Manager to develop and implement strategies and actions to meet promotional objectives.
  • Manage allocated budget and share insights to strengthen brand positioning, promotional efforts, and treatment access.
  • Ensure rare disease products are optimally utilized in line with national/local guidelines and product licenses.
  • Adhere to business ethics, local laws, policies, and marketing procedures, ensuring all activities comply with high standards of ethics and integrity.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • University degree, preferably in Medical Sciences or Pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the hospital business, preferably in niche markets or orphan drugs.
  • Experience in the neurology field, preferably in rare diseases.
  • Proven track record of delivering consistent, top-tier sales results.
  • Sales experience in rare diseases is preferred.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated passion for science and commitment to making a positive impact, with curiosity and learning agility.
  • Strong influencing skills to engage key stakeholders in complex clinical environments, including mid and senior-level specialty care professionals and key accounts.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and possessing strong analytical skills.
  • Collaborative, inclusive, and committed to high ethical standards.
  • Experience working with an overall rare disease portfolio.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position within the Commercial Team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role operates within a dynamic environment focused on advancing healthcare and contributing to the Saudi Vision 2030.
