Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking an Associate Program Coordinator-Operating Room Unit Manager to join our dedicated team in Dhahran. This full-time position is crucial for providing clinical direction and leadership within an assigned Nursing and Clinical Services Division/Department, specifically focusing on the Operating Room unit. The role involves coordinating and managing all unit activities, assuming overall 24-hour responsibility for its operations and outcomes.
Role Overview and Accountability
The Associate Program Coordinator-Operating Room Unit Manager is responsible for developing department goals, objectives, and evidence-based patient care practices, along with establishing policies and procedures in a cost-effective environment. This role provides overall organizational guidance and direction in collaboration with managers, overseeing budgeting and quality management. Key accountabilities include administrative and fiscal management of the division/department, meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring patient satisfaction, and fostering staff engagement. The incumbent will also interpret and implement JHAH and Nursing and Clinical Services policies, manage staffing provision, and ensure ongoing staff education and development.
Leadership and People Management
- Perform all managerial functions common to the division/department level as established by JHAH.
- Provide leadership that incorporates the JHAH mission, vision, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and organizational standards.
- Manage direct reports effectively, delegating appropriately and holding them accountable for specific objectives and targets.
- Maximize performance through regular coaching, review, and reflective practice, ensuring staff meet required standards and develop skills/knowledge.
- Provide leadership, supervision, functional guidance, and developmental activities for nursing and clinical services managers.
- Ensure adherence to personnel policies and provide guidance and support for Human Resource and disciplinary matters.
- Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer and managers to build a talent pool by identifying manpower requirements and participating in recruitment.
- Take responsibility alongside managers for the clinical education and professional development of the division/department.
- Conduct annual appraisals on managers/assigned staff and review the appraisals of all staff.
- Educate and mentor staff on principles of leadership, creating an environment conducive to learning.
- Participate in multidisciplinary committees and lead Nursing & Clinical Services Division/Department committees.
Operational and Quality Management
- Function as a member of the Nursing & Clinical Services Executive Committee, supporting and communicating committee decisions.
- Develop staffing plans that recognize diverse skill levels and patient needs, ensuring appropriate 24-hour staffing for the level of acuity.
- Maintain 24-hour accountability for problem-solving within the unit.
- Manage manpower budget and financial planning for the assigned area.
- Develop measures and monitor division/department operational performance metrics, including Length of Stay (LOS), overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Maintain current knowledge of and ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care, including Central Board for Accreditation of Health Care Institutions (CBAHI), Joint Commission International (JCI), and Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
- Implement corrective action plans to embed quality of care into clinical practice on an ongoing basis, promoting the Quality Improvement (QI) program.
- Identify at least one potential successor to the Division/Director role.
- Assess and forecast department resource needs and allocate resources/budgets to ensure objectives are met.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A Master's degree is required, in addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing/Specialty.
- Experience: A minimum of 9 years of clinical nursing experience post-registration, with at least 3 years of management experience in a clinical specialty.
- Clinical Expertise: Expert clinical knowledge of the assigned specialty is required.
- Certifications: Current licensure as a professional registered nurse and advanced training/certification in the specialty.
