About the Role

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking a Thoracic Surgeon to join their team in Dhahran. This full-time sub-specialist role involves providing attending and consulting surgical services to patients across all age groups, ensuring efficient and effective care within an integrated program of curative and preventive medical services.

Scope of Work

The Thoracic Surgeon will attend to both ambulatory and hospitalized patients of any age, managing cases of varying complexity within their expertise. The position operates at the JHAH Dhahran hospital facility, adhering to established medical ethical and legal rules in thoracic surgery and JHAH practices and procedures. This role reports to and is supervised by the Chair of the Heart and Vascular Department, providing day-to-day management and evaluation of patient care quality within approved clinical privileges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform professional duties as a Thoracic Surgeon sub-specialist, providing expert medical-surgical care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients.
  • Conduct daily rounds for assigned hospitalized patients and perform general and special examinations within surgical sub-specialties.
  • Serve as a consultant to other medical services for inpatient and outpatient cases, as well as to the intensive care unit.
  • Assume after-hours responsibility for surgical cases and conduct daily rounds for hospitalized patients.
  • Adhere to the Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the Medical Department, ensuring work aligns with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals standards.
  • Make recommendations to the supervisor regarding patient medical repatriation.
  • Participate in and contribute to in-service activities, including lectures and conferences, staying current on the latest techniques, procedures, and drug therapy.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Supervise staff physicians and interns, providing evaluations to the Chief of Services.
  • Consult with Anesthesiology regarding anesthesia techniques.
  • Participate in Hospital Committee functions as assigned.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, refraining from providing medical summaries without authorization from the Medical Liaison Office or releasing information over the telephone.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in thoracic surgery.
  • Ability to participate in teaching and educational activities for junior staff, medical students, and interns.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills for safe performance of duties.
  • Maintain adequate continuous medical education credits as required by hospital and licensing authorities.

Reporting Structure and Contacts

The Thoracic Surgeon will report to the Chair of the Heart and Vascular Department. Daily contact with patients and their families is required, along with routine interaction with other medical and para-medical staff in the performance of duties. Unusual problems or actions regarding unusual cases, within approved clinical privileges, must be communicated to the Chair of the Heart and Vascular Department.
