Aluminium Profile & Systems Design Engineer

About the Role

Manar Al Omran Formwork & Scaffolding Services (MAO) is establishing new extrusion capacity in the Middle East, including four 50 MN 12-inch presses for large industrial sections. This full-time role, based in Eastern, Saudi Arabia, involves transforming customer requirements into aluminium profiles and systems that can be extruded, fabricated, and certified locally, to be sold as "Made in Saudi" products. The position requires 5-10 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Profile Design: Design new extrusion profiles from customer specifications, optimising sections for extrudability in 6xxx alloys and others. Minimise weight while meeting strength and functional targets, specify tolerances, and work with the die shop on die design and trials.
• System Design: Develop complete systems including profiles, joints, connectors, fixings, gaskets, and accessories that assemble into functional products. Design for fabrication and assembly processes such as machining, CNC, bending, welding, and bolted connections. Build system catalogues, technical data sheets, and installation guidance.
• Structural Engineering: Calculate section properties and check members to Eurocode 9, the Aluminum Design Manual, or equivalent standards. Conduct FEA on critical profiles and connections, accounting for deflection, buckling, fatigue, and thermal effects. Support third-party certification and testing for structural and offshore products.
• Customer and Commercial Support: Collaborate with the sales team on technical enquiries, feasibility studies, and cost-driven redesign (value engineering). Meet with customers to understand application, loads, and installation conditions, and advise on appropriate alloy, temper, and finish.
• Engineering Management: Maintain the profile library, drawing numbers, revisions, and die register. Establish design standards and checklists for the engineering team and provide training to junior designers and draughtsmen.

Target Applications

The role focuses on designing for applications such as structural and industrial sections, offshore helidecks, truck and trailer sidewalls, large cable trays, solar mounting, marine sections, tent and shelter frames, oil and gas sections, heat sinks, and architectural fins and mullions.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience with industrial and structural profiles, including large sections from 10–12 inch presses or above, wide flat panels, interlocking deck planks, and heavy hollows.
• Design experience in one or more of the following areas: offshore and helidecks, transport (trailers, rail, truck bodies), marine (5083 / 6061), solar mounting, scaffolding and formwork, temporary structures, or defence.
• Designs approved by classification or certification bodies such as DNV, ABS, Lloyd's, CAP 437 for helidecks, or TÜV.
• Familiarity with friction stir welding of wide panels from narrow extrusions.
• A Master's degree in structural or mechanical engineering, or chartered/PE status.
• GCC or Saudi experience, with familiarity in Aramco or SASO requirements.
