Respiratory Therapist

About the Role

Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib (HMG) is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to perform routine, basic, and advanced respiratory care modalities and procedures. This full-time role involves applying and promoting evidence-based and safe respiratory care practices for various patient groups, in consultation with treating physicians and supervisors. The position requires 2-5 years of experience in a relevant field.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow appropriate Respiratory Care Management Plans in consultation with treating physicians for patients with pulmonary diseases.
• Perform patient assessments, including invasive and non-invasive monitoring and other non-invasive physiologic measurements.
• Monitor patient responses and modify therapies based on clinical/physiologic assessments and physician consultation.
• Document all patient medical records clearly and concisely in patient and department records.
• Apply and monitor all forms of invasive and non-invasive ventilation, modifying ventilator management based on clinical assessment and physiologic monitoring.
• Ensure the maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
• Assist with pulmonary diagnostic procedures such as bronchoscopy, as necessary.
• Assess the need for and initiate oxygen therapy, evaluating efficacy and appropriateness through physical assessment, SpO2, and arterial blood gas sampling.
• Provide associated cold/heated aerosol or humidity therapies when indicated and perform blood sampling for blood gas analysis via arterial puncture.
• Initiate or modify therapy as per established clinical practice guidelines or in consultation with treating physicians, including A-line insertion if ordered and certified according to ICU policy.
• Assist in administering aerosolized medications such as bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics in consultation with treating physicians.
• Perform routine respiratory care modalities including Chest Physiotherapy/Bronchial Hygiene Therapy and Lung Expansion Therapies.
• Perform advanced airway management and clearance for all patients in emergency and non-emergency situations, including effective bag-valve-mask ventilation during codes.
• Perform advanced level Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as per CPR policy and guidelines.
• Provide continuing Respiratory Home-Care, Long-term Care, and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
• Perform respiratory-related diagnostic modalities such as Basic Pulmonary Function Testing, Sleep Disorders Screening, and Metabolic Studies as indicated.
• Assist and provide patient instruction on proper use of therapeutic modalities and techniques, and conduct specialized patient education programs.
• Perform tracheostomy tube care as needed and coordinate patient weaning and corking with physicians.
• Comply with JCIA Standards, HMG Infection Control and Safety Protocols, and ensure appropriate documentation in approved health information systems.
• Transport critical, intubated, and ventilated neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients based on hospital policy.
• Provide patient and family education as per needs.
• Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
• Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect, and dignity.
• Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications and Experience

• 3 years of experience in respiratory therapy.
• Ability to perform routine, basic, and advanced respiratory care modalities and procedures.
• Proficiency in patient assessment, monitoring, and therapy modification.
• Strong documentation skills for patient medical records.
• Knowledge of invasive and non-invasive ventilation management.
• Familiarity with pulmonary diagnostic procedures.
• Competence in oxygen therapy initiation and assessment.
• Experience with aerosol/humidity therapies and blood gas analysis.
• Certification for A-line insertion, if required by ICU policy and approved by the privilege committee.
• Ability to administer aerosolized medications.
• Skills in Chest Physiotherapy/Bronchial Hygiene Therapy and Lung Expansion Therapies.
• Proficiency in advanced airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Experience in providing respiratory home-care, long-term care, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
• Capability to perform respiratory-related diagnostic modalities.
• Ability to provide patient instruction and conduct specialized education programs.
• Knowledge of tracheostomy tube care and patient weaning coordination.
• Adherence to JCIA Standards, HMG Infection Control, and Safety Protocols.
• Experience in transporting critical, intubated, and ventilated patients.
