Downstream Process Engineer

About the Role

Saudi Aramco | أرامكو السعودية is seeking a Downstream Process Engineer to join the Downstream Operations Excellence and Compliance Division. This full-time role involves providing performance oversight and advisory services to Aramco Downstream assets and Joint Venture organizations. The division oversees facilities across Eastern Region Manufacturing, Western Region Manufacturing, Power Systems, Pipelines, Distribution, and Terminals.

Role Purpose and Context

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure robust process safety requirements are met across a diverse downstream portfolio. This is achieved by providing expert oversight, conducting rigorous hazard assessments, and delivering technical advisory services. The role focuses on driving continuous improvement in safety culture and integrity management, while ensuring all operations comply with corporate policies and regulatory mandates.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight and technical guidance on the implementation of Process Safety Management systems across diverse downstream assets, ensuring alignment with corporate safety standards and international best practices.
• Assess major accident hazards by leading complex hazard identification, risk assessment, and consequence modeling studies for refineries, natural gas liquids facilities, pipeline corridors, and terminal operations within the assigned portfolio.
• Perform systematic compliance audits and gap analyses against corporate engineering standards, environmental regulations, and occupational safety codes to verify operational readiness and control effectiveness.
• Advise asset management teams on equipment integrity management, corrosion prevention strategies, mechanical reliability programs, and root cause analysis for process safety incidents within the area of expertise.
• Evaluate management of change documentation and pre-startup safety review checklists for capital projects and facility modifications to ensure engineering controls and safety barriers are properly designed and validated.
• Analyze process safety performance data to identify systemic trends, recommend engineering improvements, and prepare actionable reports for senior leadership.

Minimum Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field.
• Demonstrated strong analytical thinking and systems engineering capabilities when evaluating complex industrial operations.
• Effective technical writing and verbal communication skills for developing clear advisory reports and influencing cross-functional teams.
• Experience in conducting pre-startup safety reviews and managing process safety information.
• Ability to work effectively in diverse environments and travel to field sites as required.
