Gas Insulated Switchgear Specialist

About the Role

Saudi Aramco is seeking a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Specialist to join its Technical Services Division. This full-time role involves providing specialized technical support for the design, standards, commissioning, maintenance, operation, and investigation of GIS to ensure a safe and reliable power supply within Saudi Aramco's electrical transmission and distribution networks.

The Technical Services Division

The Technical Services Division is responsible for delivering and managing highly technical and specialized engineering services. These services are crucial for supporting the safe and reliable operation of Saudi Aramco's extensive electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform root cause analysis on critical equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Assess maintenance programs for high voltage equipment to identify improvements and ensure safe operation.
• Provide technical expertise for maintaining existing equipment, including reviewing spare parts lists and troubleshooting failures.
• Offer technical consultation to evaluate the condition of aging switchgears and breakers, incorporating innovative technologies.
• Provide technical guidance on repairs and assess equipment design against intended service conditions.
• Contribute engineering input on repair details and offer onsite technical support for critical equipment.
• Ensure work packages comply with company standards and material specifications.
• Review company standards and stay updated with international standards (*, IEC) to ensure compliance and best practices.
• Provide technical training and guidance to stakeholders for the safe and reliable operation of high voltage equipment.
• Offer technical design-level insight into GIS technology, specifically for voltage levels of 69 kilovolts and higher.
• Actively participate in the commissioning of GIS, either as part of a project team or as an original equipment manufacturer.
• Assess and ensure compliance with manufacturing standards during factory acceptance testing.
• Assimilate and apply new technical information to remain current with GIS technology developments.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. An advanced degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of direct operations and maintenance experience with GIS.
• In-depth knowledge, experience, and recognition as a GIS specialist, including membership in international engineering bodies and contributions at international conferences.
• Experience in the oil and gas, utility, or equipment manufacturing sectors is an advantage.
• Professional Engineering certifications, such as chartership or PE, are preferred.
