About the Role

Saudi Aramco is seeking a Reservoir Geologist to join the Eastern Unconventional Characterization Division (EUCD) within the UR Exploration & Characterization Department. This full-time role focuses on characterizing and advancing unconventional appraisal programs towards full field development projects. The EUCD is responsible for exploring unconventional targets, including shale, tight clastic, and tight carbonate formations, and validating the viability of existing unconventional resources to de-risk their development.

Role Context and Impact

The primary responsibility of the Reservoir Geologist is to integrate and interpret geological data to inform reservoir characterization and development, and to predict reservoir properties. The department also provides subsurface support to other UR organization entities, addressing challenges during operational stages to facilitate informed decision-making and optimized resource development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate and interpret geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to establish accurate reservoir properties and predict hydrocarbon volumes.
  • Conduct detailed geological studies using all available data to optimize well placement and reservoir development.
  • Utilize geological models and data to conduct and document reservoir characterization workflows, generating cross sections from well logs, maps, cores, cross plots, histograms, summary tables, and written reports for various stratigraphic intervals to recommend optimal well placement.
  • Evaluate current practices and identify opportunities for innovative improvements using data science applications to predict reservoir quality.
  • Actively participate in the well planning process to optimize well locations using a variety of geological and geophysical data.
  • Monitor and track wells, perform well evaluations during and post-frac jobs, and generate or update maps for structural, stratigraphic, and fluid limits based on new drilling and flowback information.
  • Provide geological input for the generation of appraisal and development plans for resource assessment and development optimization.
  • Collaborate closely with drilling, production, and reservoir engineering teams, championing operational activities from planning to execution.
  • Communicate effectively through presentations to technical peers and management teams to enhance in-house knowledge.
  • Provide support, recommendations, and advice within the area of expertise.
  • Mentor and develop newly hired and young professionals.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in active technical roles, with at least 5 years specifically in shale unconventional plays. Candidates with more or less experience will be considered based on the quality of their experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating and interpreting geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data for reservoir characterization and development.
  • Working knowledge in the integration of sedimentology, depositional environments, petrophysics, geophysics, geochemistry, geomechanics, and well placement.
  • Experience working with production and drilling teams on well performance and optimization.
  • Previous experience working with reservoir engineers and reserve auditors to determine reserve and resource estimations is preferred.

Work Environment

This role is based within the Eastern Unconventional Characterization Division (EUCD) of Saudi Aramco's UR Exploration & Characterization Department, focusing on unconventional targets within the kingdom.
