About Penspen and the Opportunity

Penspen, a leading energy services company with over 70 years of global experience, provides engineering, project management, asset management, and integrity services to the energy industry worldwide. Originally founded in the UK in 1954, the company has grown to include almost 1,000 staff members across major offices globally. Penspen is currently seeking a Senior Instrument Engineer for a full-time position based in Khafji, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.

Role Purpose and Team Integration

The Senior Instrument Engineer will operate within either the Core Engineering Team or a Project Management Team (PMT) project environment. This role may involve having engineer-grade instrument personnel under their direct responsibility, requiring control, management, and delegation of activities. The Senior Instrument Engineer may also work under the supervision of a Lead Instrument Engineer, performing responsibilities as delegated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day control of FEED engineers in the preparation of Control Block Diagrams and the identification of all field signals.
  • Review and approve the design of Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and Fire and Gas Detection systems, including datasheets and specifications.
  • Deliver timely comments on FEED deliverables and ensure their effective resolution and implementation.
  • Review and approve all relevant drawings, including cable trays (above and underground), junction box locations, and cabling.
  • Evaluate and approve vendor drawings and other submissions.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of Twelve (12) years of total experience, with at least Six (6) years specifically within Instrumentation & Control Engineering for major Oil and Gas or Petrochemical projects.
  • Required experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Preferable PMC (Project Management Consultancy) experience in a similar role for several years.
  • Beneficial knowledge of Saudi Aramco Desktop Standard and associated procedures/practices.
  • Previous exposure to construction and commissioning phases of projects is beneficial.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in all Microsoft Office Packages, particularly Word and Excel.
