The Role of Maintenance Team Lead

The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for overseeing maintenance activities within the Body-in-White (BIW) environment. This full-time role focuses on ensuring the reliability and performance of automotive process equipment, supporting daily operations, and enhancing team effectiveness. The lead will contribute to meeting production and organizational goals through proactive problem-solving, effective communication, and strong teamwork. The position requires 2-5 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain various process equipment and building utilities across different shops.
• Establish and adjust work schedules to meet production requirements.
• Ensure and enforce process compliance within the scope of operations.
• Lead modernization and continuous improvement initiatives for responsible equipment.
• Maintain an adequate on-hand spare parts inventory or lead-time system.
• Generate reports on incidents and implement corrective measures to prevent future failures.
• Establish risk matrices for critical equipment/facility status and implement preventive measures.
• Schedule, execute, and document all preventive maintenance (PM) activities.
• Collaborate with a maintenance planner to establish Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
• Perform commissioning of new systems and integrate them into existing administrative controls.
• Direct contractor and vendor activities efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Provide technical expertise and assistance to production groups.
• Enforce and adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
• Communicate equipment status and operational impacts to production groups and internal customers.
• Coordinate EHS safety training and schedules.
• Suggest new training courses/subjects in collaboration with training coordinators.
• Update key performance indicators for Facilities maintenance on the team board.
• Print Lumen reports as required.
• Assist as a Fix administrator in modifying and creating work orders and PM plans.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Technical associate degree, with a preference for automotive manufacturing.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a BIW maintenance department or a related role.
• Experience with maintenance management systems, execution of maintenance plans, and throughput analysis.
• Demonstrated good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Familiarity with BIW processes and components is an advantage.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).

Physical Demands

The role frequently requires standing, stooping, walking, and lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Candidates must be able to wear fall hazard PPE and enter confined spaces with appropriate training.
